Tom in an interview from today's press conference at De Montfort Hall: "It's art. It's really the best thing we've ever done. I know I say that for every record but it's really like we've started again and we're a new band. It's fantastic. We're still in the studio now, and it's going very well."

Chris and Tom confirming that Serge and Tim are producing the album. Steve McLaughlin, who already worked with Serge on the London Boulevard soundtrack has been named as the engineer and Mark Stent (not Mike) is mixing it. His discography scares me a bit. Beyonce? Do we have to?

Thanks for the interview! And about Mark Stent - well, Lady Gaga should scare you even more I guess;)) But according to the same list he also worked with bands like Arcade Fire, Oasis (in particular my favorite "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants"), Bjork, Muse, Depeche Mode etc. As far as I understand the term "mixing" his role is to provide technically quality sound. In this sense it doesn't make a lot of difference what kind of music he works with.

Lady Gaga scares me in all kinds of ways, not necessarily music related ones. I did see Oasis but that avalanche of mainstream pop was a bit off-putting. In the meantime I realised that Steve McLaughlin produced the strings on Velociraptor too, so he's definitely not a total stranger.

They're recording with an orchestra in Abbey Road.

We have some very exciting details in the new Q magazine - the scans are here. The track names we know so far are: Bumblebee Explodes Ezz-Eh Kid Scissor Paper Stone Bumblebee is the projected opener and according to Q, a contender for the heaviest track Kasabian have written. Ezz-Eh might be the first single and Tom describes Scissor Paper Stone as a love song written for him.

Now I imagine Bumblebee something like this with heavy synths and drums. BZZZ.

So is there a lack of guitars on this album them? it seems they've really gone down a different direction from what I've read. I really need to hear a snippet. I'm gagging here

So is there a lack of guitars on this album them? it seems they've really gone down a different direction from what I've read. According to Q at least Bumblebee has no guitars, but I don't trust them so we really don't know that much. When the first facts for Velociraptor were coming through in 2011, both Q and NME mixed up some song titles and lyrics and misattributed the band's descriptions of the new songs, which of course wasn't obvious until the album release. We do know that they recorded with an orchestra as well as with Gary and Andrew recently, so I doubt it's purely electronic.

The first thing that comes to mind when i hear "combination of electronic and orchestra" is "End Titles...Redux" by UNKLE, which is absolute a masterpiece. But still "lack of guitars" scares me a little to be honest.
Well, Kasabian is not exactly a guitar band, like Jimi Hendrix or Frank Zappa, or even Deep Purple or Aerosmith or something. But Sergio has a special way of using guitars. Like in Switchblade Smiles for example. Or think of the rhythm guitar behind the chorus on "Last Trip" - it seems a simple element, but is essential to the song. The same goes to songs like "Sun Rise Light Flies" and of course "Vlad the Impaler". So it is difficult to me to imagine Kasabian without guitars at all.
But ok, what highroyds says - these messages are often misinterpreted and vague, so we will have to wait for the first singles to see what's going on.

According to the LMO blog, they recorded with the London Metropolitan Orchestra and Jessica Dannheisser again. Also egg-throwing hero Natalie Holt.

Went looking through the tumblr scans. I wonder what they mean by '... with a little help from the hand of God.'?
