Oh WOW. Definitely the best album opener they've had yet, in my humble opinion. Seems they are responding quite vehemently to the critics' complaint about the lack of intelligent lyrics on the last album. Listened to Ill Ray like 10 times already simply because those lyrics are goddamn INCREDIBLE. This is quite simply one of the greatest songs they've ever done. I hear influences from every song I adore by them in their back catalog. Such a lovely hodge podge!

I know you're excited about a new album, but to say it's better than Club Foot, Empire, Underdog and Shiva/Bumblebee is just bizarre. Ill Ray sounds very early-stage Arctic Monkeys to me. Have to say after hearing the first 3 songs I'm feeling very deflated about the direction the band's going in. Don't even think hearing a studio version of PYLOI will salvage this IMO.

Ye, I instantly thought Arctic Monkeys. I like the songs so far but I don't love any of them.

They all just feel very half-baked to me. Almost as if they've rushed to get an album out. I know that one of the biggest reasons many of us respect and love the band so much is that the experiment and evolve their sound, but these latest songs just feel cheap. Comeback Kid is the one for me that still has an element of 'true' Kasabian, but the others just feel a bit hollow to me.

Possibly so, and it shows IMO. There's just not much depth to the songs. They're songs that are too easily comparable with other bands. I could reel off two dozen Kasabian songs that are unique and only they could play, but so far none of this album is on that list. I guess I just crave that electronic, layered element to their music that I thought they'd got back to in 48:13. Seems like a Velociraptor!-lite album so far to me.

That could be one of 100's of bands tbh. Can tell this album is going to have plenty of mixed reviews!

I also thought Arctic Monkeys - that's not a bad thing!!! Am now a lot more excited about the album after hearing the new tunes this week. Then again, Kasabian could sing a dictionary and I would still love it 💕
