It looks like it was Rob Harvey from The Music on guitar. He has been playing guitar with a couple bands recently

Sorry, for me, it just doesn't feel the same. Wonderful to hear the 'hits' live again, but I just left the gig feeling very empty. As someone who's seen them religiously since 2004, that wasn't Kasabian. That was a souped-up version of The SLP, which I guess is what this next chapter of Kasabian is in all but name. I feel more bereft today having seen them than I did after the news of Tom's departure and conviction last summer.

Thanks for sharing bumblejaybee! Was Ben there? I don't understand why they didn't just clarify that Rob isn't going to be the lead singer, he's just playing guitar, instead of letting us worry for three weeks. That's kind of a big deal. Did they introduce him at some point during the show? The atmosphere looks amazing, but I wonder what it'll be like if they don't have that to fall back on. From what I've seen Serge let the crowd sing entire verses and it really worked there, but what if they play a random festival where a lot of people are basically just waiting for the next act? Can he carry that? http://instagram.com/p/CU_Qt5Eof5M Did they sell the signed poster?

That's great to hear. Looking forward to Brixton now. Was happiness an intro / outro for another song?
Did Fast Fuse work with Serge's voice? Intro for next song. I think Serge's voice worked well for every song bar Ladies and Gentlemen. I love SLP so it was right up my street. Gig had vibes of early on when they were breaking through. Unbelievable energy and DJ got everyone in the mood. Interesting. I felt Serge's voice was all too easily lost in most songs. I could even hear Rob Harvey's backing vocals more clearly in some songs. As for stage presence, pogo'ing up and down doesn't work as a frontman for me. Certainly not in a rock and roll band. As you say, if The SLP was your flavour, last night would have ticked a lot of boxes. However, I can't get past that emptiness I personally saw on stage. Such little interaction between the band. That 'Band of Brothers' persona has well and truly left them, which breaks my heart having seen them live around 80-90 times. There was a lot of love for Serge, Chris and Ian which was wonderful to see, as I'm sure they've been through the mill in the last 18 months. Nevertheless, the Kasabian that I knew and loved died last night.

Serge has really grown during the past few years. Even during West Ryder he was still quite shy and didn't really move much on stage. By 48:13 he was much more confident. He actually credited Tom for that, he said he learned from Tom to be fearless. They also moved the stage setup so they were both centred, as opposed to Tom in the middle and Serge to the side. I knew he could do this, but the lack of Tom is undeniable. There was something so special about their whole dynamic. Tom brought a warmth and energy that is hard to replicate.
Re L&G, I actually like that one sung by Serge. It's very quiet though, maybe not a great fit for such a high energy gig. They were probably going for that "last man at the bar" thing they always mention. I do hope they switch it up a bit more.

Like to address a few things here.
Imagine how these guys must have felt last night. They've seen all the stuff on social media about it won't be the same, they're just a tribute act.
I'd imagine they felt nervous going on stage without Tom. He was their friend and the band belonged to all of them.
I reckon in a way they just wanted to get through the gig and show that they still have it. Bands evolve over time and they've always had huge dance influence to their sound. That's their roots, Serge loves all types of music which I've always felt was a strength of the band. They have swagger but emotion.
As for not announcing Rob Harvey, part of the aura for Kasabian for me has always been the mystery. They don't give too much away. They keep us guessing.
Yeah, Tom will be missed but it's a new chapter and I'm looking forward to hearing his solo stuff.
I guess what we missed was Tom's soulful sound which was another huge part of the band.
We still have those great drums from Ian and Chris is still there too. Tim now a part of the band which is great to see.

Personally, I think Serge has 'grown' because he's known this day was coming for some time. Since 48:13, he has visibly taken a more commanding presence on and off stage, which unsurprisingly coincides with Tom starting to go off the rails and exhibit personal issues. He's even admitted that For Crying Out Loud was written to try and keep Tom on the straight and narrow. Re. the undeniable lack of on-stage dynamic, I admire Serge, Chris and Ian for wanting to continue, but I just don't see how there is longevity in the guise of 'Kasabian' anymore.
