I knew from the moment the news broke about the assault, that I never wanted to see, or hear, Tom Meighan again, he sickens me. What he did, in front of a child, brings back too many memories of the times my step-dad assaulted my mum, and there is never an excuse for this kind of abuse. I'm really sorry that happened to you. I think people tend to forget that this goes beyond music or who we like better. Statistically there must be a lot of fans who have experienced something similar, for whom this whole situation is double whammy disturbing. Nobody owes anyone forgiveness. If you feel comfortable still chatting about Kasabian on here, all Tom content is in its own section so anyone who wants to can avoid him more easily.

"I’ve been a Kasabian fan since the first album, seen them so many times throughout the years and it is devastating to find out someone I used to adore is such a cunt. It’s definitely still raw and every time I listen to Kasabian with Tom’s voice it’s just triggering, and I hate that he’s ruined songs I loved.". Thank you for putting into words exactly how I feel. I knew from the moment the news broke about the assault, that I never wanted to see, or hear, Tom Meighan again, he sickens me. What he did, in front of a child, brings back too many memories of the times my step-dad assaulted my mum, and there is never an excuse for this kind of abuse. I've mainly avoided posting in response to the comments from former Kasabian fans, on Kasabian's socials, other than to point out we can all just support whichever side (and there are sides) we wish without commenting on the other, as I find them juvenile and repetitive. I find it bizarre that they consider it fine to mock the band for continuing, blaming them for Tom's departure, when the fact is they did what they had to do and it is Tom who caused all the issues. Also, I firmly believe that many of the short-notice cancellation of gigs in years gone by were highly likely to have been as a result of Tom not being in a fit state to perform, absolutely down to him. I hope both can continue performing and that the fans can continue to support just Kasabian, just Tom, or both, as they wish. The morons who continue with the "No Tom, no party" narrative can just fuck right off, silly little children. I'm looking forward to there being more Kasabian songs in which Tom does not feature, then I'll be able to listen to them again. Ach Pip, I didn't know that about your step-dad, I'm so sorry to read that. I get the impression a lot of people don't realise how serious the effect on that child (and there may have been more than one child present) would have been. I was shocked but not totally surprised that UK law changed only last month to include child witnesses of domestic abuse as victims in their own right. If Tom had done what he did now, it would have been taken into account. And they wouldn't have been able to claim it was 'just an argument she didn't want to hear' in that interview - a comment that actually managed to shock me more than the incident itself. Agree with you on the short-notice cancellation of gigs. If not all, surely some of them. I really, really don't get why people need to taunt the band. Even if people think they were wrong (I don't), why not just leave them to it? It's weird.

Is that true about free tickets just to fill up the room? Oh dear. Yes it’s true ,maybe with all the gigs bar Leicester being poor sellers he hopefully realises that he isn’t as popular as what he thought and crawls back under that rock. Saw about that in Popbitch last week. All a bit sad tbh. Also, I had no idea there was such a thing as seat filler agencies before last week! Had a look into it and you can get some good deals if, er, you don't mind going to see stuff no-one else wants to. A bit cheeky that promoters can still sell tickets to events full price while seat filling agencies are simultaneously flogging them off for a fiver or giving them away though

By the way, what is the legal side of performing songs you didn't write? I assume the original writer, Serge, had to give some kind of approval? I might be wrong, though. But this whole thing with 'I'm moving on but keep singing old bangers' doesn't completely agree with me. You can cover whatever you want, no permission required. You just have to pay royalties to whoever wrote the song, which is, in this case, ironic.

I've just watched that new interview with Tom. It was rough, it's like he was saying all the 'correct' answers to the questions he was getting, a really weird feeling. I don't believe him, tbh.

You don't have to pay royalties for live performances. As far as I know venues have a blanket license so anyone on stage can do whatever. It's not Tom having to pay Serge for each LSF. It would be different if he released them of course. I've just watched that new interview with Tom. It was rough, it's like he was saying all the 'correct' answers to the questions he was getting, a really weird feeling. I don't believe him, tbh. "They're my brothers" is the new "we're totally still friends with Karloff"

The Talk Tonight guy who interviewed him posted a follow up video after seeing Tom live and made an interesting point about Tom's possible longevity. He said he doesn't see him gaining new fans outside of existing Kasabian fans. People who were already Kasabian fans either went on to support him or not. But how many people are going to discover him outside of that context? And who will stick around after googling him?

Does anyone know what happened to that Greg Gent who was working with Tom? Someone tweeted that Tom fucked him over… Greg has now written a book about a subject matter that has affected his life massively… could be putting 2+2 and getting 5 http://instagram.com/p/CghON0qomGk
