We've talked about this a few times with highroyds and we both think that our favourite songs are not necessarily the best Kasabian songs. For me there are a few songs which I think are absolutely perfect. It's hard to chose of course but I narrowed my list down to 7 - Processed Beats, The Doberman, Take Aim, Underdog, La Fee Verte, Switchblade Smiles and Treat. What do you think is the best thing Serge has written? (or co-written with Karloff?).

I agree with you cuttoff, it is quite difficult to make a choice, as there has been so many god stuff released! My list would be: Stuntman Ovary Stripe Julie and the Mothman 55 Processed beats Underdog Re-wired

Mothman, Ovary Stripe and Silver Bullet were on my longlist too. I forgot Acid Turkish Bath actually, it must be one of the most beautiful Kasabian songs.

I think Acid Turkish Bath is the most stunning piece of music. I'd say Underdog as well because I personally think it has held up so well, usually I get a bit sick of the "big" songs that they play everywhere all the time, but to this day I still can't get enough of Underdog. I love how it's such a different song when it's played acoustically.

Ooh, this is a really tough one. Just offhand:
I.D. - its general atmosphere and swirliness - the album track that refused to die - that it's still being played live (albeit on rotation now) 10 years on is a sign of just how amazing a song it is.
Club Foot - far from my favourite, but the way it captured people's imaginations and is so utterly recognisable even to people who barely know Kasabian - writing that was one hell of an achievement.
Underdog - though picking just one song from WRPLA is an incredibly tough call.
stevie - they can do anything with that song - strip it down to the basics, expand it to HUGE, add stuff, make it sound even more determined, or sadder, anything, and it's still incredible. Amazing bit of songwriting.
s.p.s - simple, heartfelt, beautiful. perfect lyrics too.

I don't know about best, but I think "Fast fuse" f.ex. is brilliant because of that perfect fit between music and words and the way Tom more or less shouts it, especially the second part.

This is an incredibly tough, tough discussion to decide on.
Acid Turkish Bath: This one has the perfect lyric and music combination to take you to another era or dimension. Although La Fée Verte does have the same vibe (and the title literally is about Absinthe, right?), you don't need to have a drink or to be high to get that effect of being transported to someplace else. I'm saying this because when I was frustrated with my then bosses, I'd flee the workplace having this song on and just forget about the world outside.
British Legion/Happiness- The soothing, lullaby-like hum these have changed how I look at songs with Sergio as lead vocals. I always skipped them but as soon as you start listening to them at the right mood, they'll get stuck in your head
Julie and the Mothman- It's unashamed of its sexuality. I'm in the hopes my future boyfriend will overhear this as my ringtone and get the hint. Also, the synths kill.
Goodbye Kiss- The idea that this song was written without the premise that it was pertaining to his relationship status that time is just genius. I mean, whatever the inspiration that has led to this one, they made an anthem that isn't to be found in their other songs. (Sorry, okay that's my personal attachment seeping out.)
Stevie- "Live to fight another day, live to fight again." That's the best part. The feeling it gives is totally empowering.
S.P.S.- It can pertain to a dedication to a friend or a lover or a loved one. Basically, it's the best ending song ever.
Other noteworthy ones:
Running Battle U Boat Fast Fuse Glass Cutt Off Vlad The Impalter
Gosh, I feel like I just randomly typed songs.

People talked about that so much back then, like how could he write a break up song without breaking up, but... he's a writer? That's kind of what he does? He probably hasn't killed someone for that Club Foot feeling. And they did say that GK is not personal, it was written just for the sake of writing it, because people wouldn't expect Kasabian to come out with a song like that. Which I think is pretty cool in itself, although I wonder who those people are, seeing how they've had slow songs and love songs on every album.

My personal favorite has to be La Fee Verte. The way it starts, the moods developing, his vocals really touch you, and the chorus is something everyone has felt atleast once in his or her lifetime. It's so honest and cryptic at the same time. The lyrics are in total sync with the song, and the screams are just otherworldly. It also ends up with a woman's voice at the end saying 'What's wrong?' as if it was all just this dream.
Other mentions have to be U-Boat, it is just so easy to feel his pain. To me, it almost feels like this guy who got dejected and joins some mafia, and is shot down at some port, his body falls into the sea and he just drowns in all of his thoughts. This may sound weird, but that's what I feel.
Neon Noon is also an excellent track, you could wave your hands in the sky to the lyrics, which is pretty amazing.
