They were definitely sharing official releases, when I dug up the Fast Fuse thread a while ago I saw that people were posting the radio rip of the song immediately after it was played for the first time. Considering how rare the vinyl is, it was probably most people's only way of listening to it, so it's bound to happen, but on an official forum? There was also someone who made a big torrent with all the released songs and advertised it all over the place. It's still around and I think that was how I got all the b-sides for the first time. I didn't really start collecting all the releases until maybe late 2009? Before that I only had the albums, as you would. And I don't think you can even buy the early b-sides digitally today. The MOSP EP tends to be quite cheap on Amazon. Ebay prices are silly. It's possibly label naïveté. During the first album run, they had a section for each release and a link to a wma file for each b-side, which obviously you could record for free. They barely checked the forums. Bubbs and others were on at control for ages to nominate some regular users as mods to stop all the shite posts. I just had a memory of when the new Empire skins for the website debuted. Very exciting! The 2008 era was a bit odd. Little in the way of news, and all you had was Fast Fuse and Thick as Thieves to go on. Then they played Fire and I was still unsure of what the supposed "60's road trip" album was going to turn up as. Fairly sure bubbs heard it pre-release and was vaguely negative about it (again, that's possibly a false memory), then some posted that the album was "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum", and I thought that the wee band that could had collectively lost it. And they had, but in such a brilliant way. |

The forum was unceremoniously deleted when Kasabian Live appeared in late 2011, but I seem to remember that it was kind of broken before that. Some parts never worked. Still, it was amost 10 years of memories and information that disappeared with it, which was pretty sad. As much as the most of the people on there frustrated me when it was still around, it would have been nice to keep it as a reference. Then there was a forum on KL, but nobody ever used it, and then that didn't work anymore either. I don't think the current official one is very active. The Brixton DVD wasn't released except for a few incredibly rare promo copies, I don't think anyone knows why exactly it wasn't released, but it went as far as being announced by the NME, and then nothing happened. It would be interesting to check the old forum to see what people were saying about it at the time, but of course we can't... |

It was the only forum as far as I remember, there were no fan forums at the time. There was probably no need because everything was covered there. Then forums completely died out for a while when everyone suddenly had blogs. |

How did you get your hands on the the misprinted one? Is it really difficult to find? Regular one is lovely, it's such a special release. I found the misprinted one on ebay 3-4 years ago, I don't remember at all how much I paid but I saw one on eil.com recently for something like £80, looks like it's gone now. I've seen a few regular ones presented as misprinted on ebay, and I think the old official website is to blame because they had the pic of the regular one captioned as the 'wrong' one. Hope you can find one for yourself! |
