So, this is the one thread I always wanted to open here but couldn't be arsed. So far the Band had three leading guitarists, completing Serge's melodies with great riffs but who is the best of them? 1. Chris Karloff (1997-2005) 2. Jay Mehler (2005-2012) 3. Tim Carter (2013-?) So, who is the best?

Tim for sure. He just seems to add so much more to the tunes.

Tough one. It's like picking a favourite song.
I recently spoke to cuttoff about each guitarist, so I'll paraphrase some of what I said here;
Karloff had the massive guitar sound that was more akin to synths. Big personality live. Jay had a pretty harsh metallic sound in 2006, but his strength was his subtlety as time went on. Not afraid take a step back and reinvent the older songs. Tim's much more a traditional lead guitarist, which is particularly refreshing for the material in general.
I like how each guitarist has his own era, I don't think I could choose.

Tim is magical, they couldn't have found anyone better. He was hugging us within five minutes of our first meeting, I just wanted to steal him. Not entirely unbiased on an emotional level because my grudge against Jay is ongoing and I never saw Karloff live with them, so I feel like I can't really judge him. I found his post-Kasabian music pretty shocking tbh.

What did Mr. Mehler do?

I'm enjoying Tim more than the others. His performances are outstanding and this makes him more than just an 5th and aditional member. He's part of the band, featuring more than Jay and adding much more to the songs.

I think he will join some other band quite soon. Wonder if he regrets leaving Kasabian for Beady Eye. I know I would.

Too tough to decide. Every one gives it their own flavours. It seems like the lead guitarists got changed as the era changed, which suited perfectly for the tour. I would say Tim has a slight advantage though.

I cannot vote because of my limited experience, but I think it should be Karloff, because it was his band as well at the beginning and even though we'll never hear the details, I am sure he did his part in shaping their sound, especially on "Kasabian". Call me sentimental, but I think there is always something special about mark I of any outift, even if it does not work out in the end. But then, I love Black Onassis' album, so maybe I just have a soft spot for him.
As for Jay, my heart is bleeding, because I love Beady Eye and he looked so right as part of them. But I always felt this "he needs to be on a stage" was a strange official reason, because even before Gem's accident Tim ended up playing at least as much with Kasabian as he with Beady Eye. So maybe there was something else going on that no one is telling us because we don't need to know or he simply just needed a change and is waiting for the next door to open.

I think he will join some other band quite soon. Wonder if he regrets leaving Kasabian for Beady Eye. I know I would. Probably. Especially considering he left because he wanted to tour and then Beady Eye ended up cancelling loads of gigs in 2013. We actually heard that he was working on a solo record while he was still in Kasabian, so maybe now he's got time he'll put that out? It would definitely be interesting. I think it was just awkward timing that made it look a bit dodgy, because at the time it came out that Jay was leaving, Snowbombing was the last gig of the tour. Everything else was announced later. I'm not sure whether it was initially planned that they would play the whole summer, probably not. As for the "real reason", everytime they talk about Jay's departure they say the same thing. Me and cuttoff personally spoke to Ian before anything was made public, he told us there's nothing going on. Of course it's stupid because Jay should have known that they won't take a year off. Or maybe he had a different reason and didn't tell the rest of the band, or like you said nobody needs to know, but considering they never really lied about why Karloff left I don't see why they would try to cover up anything about Jay. I already like Tim more than I ever liked Jay (and I did like him a lot, he's a great musician and was always very lovely, like that one time he shouted at me to GET INSIDE A HOUSE so I wouldn't be cold) and I think he brought so much to the band, musically and otherwise, he can never ever leave now.

karloff IS club foot for me... plus he was on stuntman
didn't really like jay at all, he didn't really look the part, he looked like a dad playing in a band with his son and there mates, and he nearly ruined club foot because they got chris to play the riff
tim is wicked to be fair, only thing i would say is he there is no need for the showing off solo on re-wired.... but i don't really like that song at all, so maybe thats clouding my judgement

I was impressed by the solo at Glastonbury for Days Are Forgotten. It was monumental. I don't think I ever thought anyone associated to Kasabian pulling off that solo
