15 songs - I think the same setlist as Bristol but with Acid House added. - although still very short. I was in bed by 23.30 - has never happened before.
It was a so good to see them, and it makes me happy they are making music and touring. Serge is doing a great job as a frontman and yes, of course some songs come to him easier than others (missed Tom's voice terrible for Stevie and Acid House especially). I was prepared for Tom not being there but Ben's absence really hit me as the sound has really changed, especially now with 3 guitars. The set was so guitar heavy and less electronic. Treat, Pinch Roller and SBS suffered most I felt. I love Treat so much for its rich electronic sound and I don't know if it was the sound for that particular gig or no, it sounded so tame and gentle, and not a loud, gorgeous beast it is. The encore was fun, although I'll never get used to Fire as a closer and maybe I'm getting too nostalgic about it but it has changed a lot, Serge's own 'Move on' bit cut off. Someone mentioned yesterday 'budget Kasabian' and I was thinking so many delicious extras are msising - no euphoric trumpets for LSF, no SBS screams, that great Ben and Ian intro for Empire, Stevie reprises... Still a great gig, not rough at all, enjoyed every moment - but have to confess something was missing and it wasn't just Tom's voice. A lot of beautiful nuance was missing, Ben and Gary not being there. Or I might get used to this - Shoot the Runner completely startled me as I couldn't understand who is singing what until I saw Rob is singing Serge's parts.
Oh and my personal highlight was watching Tim to play the theremin for Underdog and SBS, looked magical. Also there was a tiny doll attached to Serge's t-shirt which was very cute.
flipflop made an interesting observation that I agree 100% that what the set was missing was a Serge singing a Serge song.

A lot of beautiful nuance missing is a great way to describe the band now. Nostalgic or not, it's just not the same for me. While I'm pleased they can continue earning a living and do what they do, the whole performance lacks authenticity, depth and meaning. There's a real sense of going through the motions IMO. Serge may have long been the brains of the outfit, but losing Tom has ripped out the heart of the outfit and I'm not sure that's replaceable.

I agree for Stevie missing Tom’s voice, that’s the only song where I thought Serge’s voice wasn’t quite right. Although I still enjoyed it and I’d much rather have Serge sing it than ever see Tom sing it again. Treat and Switchblade (along with I.D being the biggest highlight of course!) were incredible at Bristol - those were songs I thought have improved and it was the best I’d seen them. For me I didn’t think anything was missing at all; it felt to me as though they’re thriving! Rob is a great addition and I love that he’s also helped bring Tim out of his shell. I love seeing those two interacting and having an incredible time. I think Gary will be back at some point too for touring next year.

I agree with not a Serge song not being played like Take Aim ,it is one of their best song's.I love the sound of SS now and the highlight of the gigs for me was ID.
