For me, the jury is still out on Serge as frontman.
Not sure if it was the acoustics of the venue, or if the vocal was deliberately drawn back into the mix, or if it was the volume of singing from the crowd, but Serge's vocal wasn't particularly strident. If you closed your eyes it literally could've been anyone with a semi competent singing voice doing the vocal.
With regard Serge's stage presence, I'd like to see less of the pseudo rapper-like prowling back and forth across the stage. I know rap is in Serge's (and, ergo, Kasabian's) musical DNA, but it just doesn't fit with what I want from the Kasabian front man. It reminded me of someone doing Karaoke for the first time, not being quite sure of what moves to make, so defaulting to what you'd do in front of the bedroom mirror whilst listening to NWA.
Having said all that, I had a blast. Sang till I was hoarse, jumped around way too much for someone of my age, and will repeat it on Wed and Thu.
Bear with me. Losing Tom is an adjustment that'll take some getting used to.

Not seen them live on this tour yet, but it's how I've felt about the clips I've seen of the shows so far, and I kind of felt it a bit at the SLP gigs. I know it must be super nervewracking for him to take the frontman role on, but I do sometimes wish he'd have a little more confidence in both himself and in us, to calm down a little. We could just watch him, y'know, sing for a bit.

We could just watch him, y'know, sing for a bit. I'm not even sure it's a nervousness thing. After all, he's been in a goliath rock band for 17 years now, and for the last 6 years or so has grown his on-stage persona hugely. I totally get that fronting the band without Tom is a huge increase in responsibility for him. But I honestly think this is just Serge acting out how he is as a front man. It allows him to grip the mic upside down, and prowl his thang. What I'm hoping is to see him grow and develop into the role, realising he doesn't have to hype the crowd by bouncing around the stage like Dizzee Rascal.

I just heard that Serge said something like "see you next summer" at the gig and now everyone thinks they're headlining Reading & Leeds? Might be?

R/L are using more and more double headliners. Can imagine them in that position at the moment.

Yeah, R&L both had 2 main stages in 2021, so effectively 6 'headline' acts across the weekend.
Having said that, I thought the lineup sucked this year, and it feels very much like it's shifting away from its rock orientated roots.
I'm holding out hope that RATM make a return next year (had tickets to see them on the Friday at Leeds in 2020, which got Covid-cancelled). Add Run The Jewels as their touring partner, add Kasabian, and add Arctics with their 7th album (🤔🤫) and I'll be there.
