I think they'll release something in time for the festivals next year.

What I hope is for Album 7 to get a January/February drop - March at the latest - instead of another FCOL situation, where we get the first single in the fall, and have to wait for the album till summer. I don't think I can handle that level of anxiety again.

I don't think I can handle that level of anxiety again. Comeback Kid wasn't released as a single in September. They didn't release it outside of the Fifa game, so it leaked. The first single was YILWAP in March. Not sure when to expect an album. They've only ever released albums between May and September, but that would be a very long rollout. Everything is off the table anyway, rebrand, go wild, release it for Christmas, idk.

No I'm aware it was leaked from FIFA, but that didn't make the wait any less torturous. Nor did their moving the album back from a March release to May when Serge announced the updated tracklist with Ill Ray and BTAH, if I'm recalling things correctly. But yeah, with the seismic shakeup of no more Tom, I think it would be really smart to put Album 7 out in late winter or early spring to give people a chance to let the new sound grow on them, because there will clearly be haters when it drops - regardless of what it sounds like - just because no Tom. But if the album is good and they give us time to warm up to it, the real fans will be there to see them rock that festival circuit...except for me, because I'm in the states and they almost never come here.

Nor did their moving the album back from a March release to May when Serge announced the updated tracklist with Ill Ray and BTAH, if I'm recalling things correctly. The time leading up to the FCOL release was a mess. There were two interviews done in May 2016, in one (Q Magazine) they said the album is coming out in autumn and teased some song titles. That wasn't published until June/July though. Then they did another interview (NME) in which it was suddenly "no plans at all." I don't know for sure but I've always had a strong feeling that Tom and his partner broke up between those two dates and that's why it was postponed. They had been posting pics from the studio all spring, and then out of nowhere radio silence. By the time the issue of Q came out with the info about the autumn release everything had already changed. But of course they don't tell us anything, they just leave us hanging with zero updates, then the Comeback Kid kerfuffle, still nothing, and then I think Serge did an interview in December or January where he mentioned Ill Ray etc. I don't recall a release date given for March. I think 2016 was when I lost faith in them a little. Not because they owe me an album, or even an explanation, when one of them is unwell, of course that takes priority, but because they just didn't seem to give a shit.

I wonder if they might do an EP instead Interesting idea! Maybe they should, they could probably put it out faster than a full album, have new material with less commitment.

I knew something happened that had me excited for the album to come out earlier than May, I just forgot it was that early. But yeah, that makes sense with the Comeback Kid leak. And I completely agree about the FCOL era. Everything about it was minimum effort. No b-sides, no real explanations, no memorable lead-up and not much promotion after. It was a rough time to be a fan.

The moment I saw ALYGATYR and my brain tried to read it as an acronym at first, I suddenly remembered this picture they posted sometime in 2019. Took me forever to find because they wiped their Instagram. I wonder if we'll meet this one again.

I wonder if they might do an EP instead As much as I am chomping at the bit for Album 7, I think an EP might be the smartest thing they could do. Give us a few new tracks to sink our teeth into. They could all be played on the circuit without having to sacrifice too many classics from the set list. And EPs don't need crazy rollouts or lots of promotion. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

The music from that clip was also in an Instagram post Serge put up ages ago (maybe 2018?) of him playing a riff with something like the caption “I love guitars, me”. It’s been deleted now but I recognised it as soon as I heard it.
I think we’ll get an album release straight after the tour is finished. Hopefully a March/April release date?
