I realised the other day that Kasabian love the 3rd week of October for debuting new songs, here is a little calendar of that week:
20/10/2011 - Man of Simple Pleasures
21/10/2009 - West Ryder Silver Bullet
23/10/2009 - Julie & the Moth Man
24/10/2009 - Secret Alphabets
25/10/2014 - Neon Noon
26/10/2014 - Clouds
This got me thinking about first performances, and thought I'll make thread. I've been lucky to see 2 of these - Silver Bullet and Neon Noon, and generally a few more debutes. I think there is something very special about seeing a song coming alive, even more special if you haven't even heard the studio version. Seeing Neon Noon and Switchblade Smiles for the their first live performances are probably some of my favourite memories. Neon Noon was very different from the gentle, soothing album version which is like a lullaby. Live it was very emotional and dark, and Tim's little solo made it so intense. With Switchblade Smiles I was completely unprepared because we didn't know the song then, it started slow and beautiful, then Tom screamed 'ARE YOU FUCKING READY SHEFFIELD' and it crashed down on our heads and I think we all assumed it's the end of the world or something as dramatic as that.
Which first performances you like (or dislike)? Have you ever seen a song performed for the first time? If not at a gig, which songs impressed you when you watched / listened to their first performances? Was it what you expected, or was it very different? Which songs you think changed a lot since their debut?
