With it being the 4th anniversary of the Velociraptor! release today, I remembered this lovely acoustic of Man of Simple Pleasures (from the same radio station in Canada that hosted the session they did Glass at last year - that station really knows how to record sessions!). Apols if it's been posted here before:

that station really knows how to record sessions! It mostly knows how not to release the most interesting parts of them. :/ Man of Simple Pleasures was my favourite when the album came out. Maybe it still is, it's so beautiful. One of my favourite versions is from the Current session.

It's ace, but I'd forgotten about it cos I am shallow and I only save the ones with pictures (and no DAF ever cos I hate it). What did Edge 102.1 leave out? The sessions are so good, it's a shame they didn't release all of them :/

What did Edge 102.1 leave out? The sessions are so good, it's a shame they didn't release all of them :/ They covered When You're Smiling at last year's session and Edge refused to share it because it was allegedly an "audience exclusive" for the 3 people in the room. I emailed everyone I could think of begging for it, and we even suggested they could record it for their annual Christmas/NYE song. But of course nobody cares that some people actually want to hear this and we got the 54th acoustic version of Stevie instead. The session is still gorgeous of course. I'm just bitter.

Oh, that was there, was it? I'd forgotten. I'd hazard a guess that "audience exclusive" means "we couldn't get copyright clearance to broadcast it", but it's a real shame we never got to hear it. But still, y'know, Glass! It was worth it just for that. In other news, I got one of those 'on this day' alert things from Facebook reminding me of a post where I'd said I didn't like MOSP when Velociraptor! first came out What was wrong with my ears??!!

One of my least favourite tracks by the band. I don't dislike it though.

I'd hazard a guess that "audience exclusive" means "we couldn't get copyright clearance to broadcast it" Would they need that? I mean, there are so many covers now. Do they have to get permission for every performance? Is there a difference between a radio broadcast and let's say Crazy at Glasto, which was also broadcast? There was also something between Sony and Harvest, we were told they were "trying to get the recordings" (this involved several things from the US tour last year, Ghostbusters, the Rdio session which couldn't be released in its entirety...) and I was like nooo just sit down, play it, stick it on Soundcloud? We tried to talk to Gary about it as well, but he got distracted and started telling us that his trumpet was too cold at Snowbombing. ANYWAY enough of that. Does anyone like the MoSP remix?

I'd assume they'd still need permission. I don't know the exact legal situation, but I think radio stations are still responsible for any cover version they broadcast. Also, the recording itself is owned by the host (ie radio station, Rdio etc), so unfortunately I don't think the band could just bung it on Soundcloud. Which is a massive shame. And yes, I LOVE that remix

That's why my suggestion was for them to just sit down for 5 minutes and play the song again. They (or Serge) had time to record Stevie and Bow for that purpose, why not the ones we were dying to hear? They did it with Ghostbusters, which was a bit anticlimactic because that was the only one we actually got.

I really really love Tom's vocals on this one. Might be one of his best songs
