They told the crowd in Birmingham that they're boring. That's acceptable for me if they feel so.
Can you describe what happened on Tuesday/yesterday?
I don't think it's acceptable, sorry. They should be grateful for the opportunity. They can do whatever they want at their own gigs, swear at their own fans if they feel so inclined, but I felt like it was quite inappropriate to do it to another band's fanbase.
I first saw them in Newport, I had a listen on Spotify beforehand and knew it might not be my thing, but that doesn't even matter. Like I said, musically not completely horrendous. But they immediately came across aggressive and unpleasant. Both of the singers repeatedly grabbed their junk, Mini Jim took his shirt off. The other one came down to the barrier and stood in front if a girl for a bit, but she actually seemed to like them, so I thought that wasn't too bad.
At the first London gig practically the whole front row was people who had been to the previous gigs and already knew they weren't into them, none of us went in intending to hate them. We'd been queueing since morning and their set meant another hour waiting for the band we actually wanted to see, I certainly wasn't feeling too enthusiastic. At one point the singer told us we've got "faces like a slapped baby's arse". Has he seen himself?
Then he came down again to the barrier and started to sort of ruffle/pull people's hair, which I really didn't like. Here's a band I don't know, I didn't pay to see, and they're acting in a very inappropriate manner. I know it's not like he was grabbing people's breasts, but it's someone touching you when you don't want to be touched, and you can't go anywhere to escape, and that's it. The initial tweet mentioned him being on drugs, especially at the London shows he seemed quite out of it and could barely string a sentence together, but maybe that too is part of their amazing act.
He was also rolling around on the floor at some point, groped himself and moaned into the microphone for a while.
Same thing on Wednesday, dudebro feeling himself, spitting into the pit in front of the barrier, classy. Then he went down and stood at the barrier in front of the girl. We were further down the left so I didn't see exactly what happened, but I saw the movement of the dad pushing him away, and a friend standing further towards the middle turned to us and said he just pulled her hair really hard. That's all I knew at that point and that's when I wrote he assaulted someone. We only found out about the rest in the morning.
The singer got back on stage, and someone from the crowd yelled "you're shit" at which point he pulled his pants down and showed us his bare arse.
Sometime before Kasabian started security brought him up to the barrier where he supposedly apologised, but he was arguing for ages, being confrontational, and eventually they did shake hands, but someone who was closer said he basically did the "sorry you're offended" non-apology.
I think sexual assault is quite an inflammatory word and I don't know if I would have used it had it been me. But I don't know how the girl feels about it so I'm not going to say it wasn't, it's not for anyone else to decide. It was completely inappropriate and overstepping boundaries, and that makes me really not want to listen to them ever again. When Reverend were supporting Kasabian I didn't like them much at first, but the more I heard of them the better I liked the songs, so who knows, I might have ended up liking these guys.
It's also kind of pathetic that the part he denies is putting his hand down his trousers because we saw him do that like clockwork at every gig.
It already feels unsafe down there. I mean, I know what I'm getting into at a gig, I can deal with being shoved around a bit. But you expect the other side of the barrier to be the nice part, you know?
Anyway, that's what I saw happen. I really hope the girl is ok, I hope people don't try to stalk her, the vermin from The Sun are already trying to track her down. I also hope this won't reflect badly on Kasabian, because now their name is in all the headlines next to the words sexual assault, and we all know what happened when one of their support bands got escorted off a plane by police a couple of years ago....
