I just said maybe he's not comfortable in a suit. He opted not to wear a tie at Soccer Aid too. But in the end it really doesn't matter. I think he probably did it to piss people off. It's amazing how passionate people are about some guy somewhere wearing something. The majority is people who already hate them and are really happy to have another excuse now. Do they think he cares? Do they think he would have done that if he was worried about random strangers' opinions? We should all be inspired by the complete lack of fucks he gives.
I think to us it was a bit of a disappointment because we have seen him wear this exact same thing for a year and it got a bit boring. But the general public was kind of coming from a place of "who does he think he is, does he think he's clever??" which is pretty pathetic.
I thought the actual performance was a bit dull. There was so much talk of not playing it safe, and then it was the safest thing in the world, it wasn't even live. But it's not exactly a career defining moment for them, probably more like a fun night out.

I suppose that rules them out of ever playing The Royal Variety performance then. But really they just didn't deserve all that hate on twitter and the fans got a right slagging off too.One girl wrote Kasabian fans get blind drunk in Wetherspoons and pogo around knocking things over that did make me laugh what's wrong with Wetherspoons? ??

It's rather funny people are having that reaction. Like, come on. Have they seen the Grammys how, for a "prestigious" music award show you'd see half naked women who dare call themselves singers. I mean, I know it's the opposite of the BAFTAs or even the Oscars but they're a rock band and they're playing. You don't play rock songs unless your group's identity is wearing tux in both live performances or music video like Hurts. It's not like the plan was to make them play classical music on stage. I mean, I seriously didn't mind Sergio being casual. It's their song and their moment. And I certainly didn't mind seeing the rest of them in their tux (damn Ian and Tom and Chris looking so mighty fine in the red carpet and during the opening). I seriously am confused with what the big deal is. Like, heck, their concerts are not that different. Serge was with his novelty shirt and Tom was in his suit (that makes me wanna do things to him). Nothing out of the ordinary. And their song fits the montage, although I wished they took out the sound because it ruined it. I love the synchronization of that Whiplash bit to Ian's bit.

I didn't really enjoy the BAFTA's performance, it just felt quite odd and artificial to me, but for reasons that really weren't the band's fault. Such a shame they were only able to do the vocals live, and I found the film clip interruptions really distracting (and detracting) from the song, but y'know, not the band's fault at all. They had to work within BAFTA's restrictions. I thought they looked fabulous though, the hate is completely over the top.
It has got them a lot of press and publicity though, I hope it's helped, and I hope it makes more people go and listen to Stevie properly, because it is such an incredible song.

My daughter was just saying why did Serge wear the t shirt and not a suit and she thought it was a bit wrong but as I said to her if he wore a suit not as many would be talking about it now so in one way or another it was good publicity even if they have taken a fair bit of stick. Also why were only the vocals live.?

You'd think it was the NATO peace talks. I'm so annoyed by all of this. They were asked the play the BAFTAs after being totally snubbed by the Brits. Very cool and daring of the BAFTAs to even invite them. They could have asked safer bands like the stupid Monkeys or Elbow, or something mainstream like that but they asked OUR boys, (and by all accounts they had a brilliant time!) and all anyone can talk about is Serge's fucking shirt, and analyse in minute detail their set and everything wrong with it. Jesus. I'm glad they don't give fuck cos if they did they'd be really let down by it all.

Sorry (sort of) about my previous post. Just makes me sad. This was such a cool moment for them and all the comments everywhere I read are so negative. Never mind. Here are more lovely photos... (you need to click on "newest" to get to the Bafta photos...)

Nevermind Serge, lets talk about Chris here and whatever he's doing to the poor Klaxon guy. I totally didn't recognise him in the first pic and thought it's a girl. (source)

Also why were only the vocals live.? I think it's always the case with TV performances isn't it? I don't think I've seen them 100% live on TV except the Jools performances.

I thought Keira Knighly looked divine. And I adore that photo of Serge and Amy.
