I hope Kasabian win some just cos it'll be good publicity for 'em and they'll maybe get a few people interested who wouldn't be otherwise (plus their acceptance speeches are usually amusing), but I'm not too fussed otherwise.

my point is... do people really care about awards? if your going into music to win awards you arent doing it for the right reasons Do Kasabian care about awards? Not really. Especially this one probably. There's an interview from a few years ago where Chris literally says it was quite nice to win a Brit Award because it actually means something, unlike NME Awards. Do I want them to lose out to NME's flavour of the week once they're nominated? Hell no, so for what it's worth, and because I don't have anything better to do, I'm voting. But I think we all know that they're not in it for the awards, and nobody is voting because they think Serge is going to cry himself to sleep.

But I think we all know that they're not in it for the awards, and nobody is voting because they think Serge is going to cry himself to sleep. Well, about NME, i can see why a lot of people and artists, let's say, don't trust NME. As to me it looks like this magazine consists of two group of people - complete idiots and really good music experts. But if you look to their award history with Kasabian, NME seem to fancy them despite controversial articles from time to time. So my guess this time Kasabian will win 2 or 3 awards as well. Just like with Q-music. I am not even sure any band even won 3 major Q-awards out of 4 ever before. But in general i believe that with 48:13 Kasabian passed the award period. After this year they shouldn't be nominated any more, because, you know, they don't have to prove anything to anyone. And in fact they should be giving awards to magazines or other bands. Sounds a little arrogant maybe, but to me awards are more for kind of promising bands, not the bands who are already established. And maybe later they can come back for some classic awards, like Pink Floyd this year or Kate Bush. But it is just my opinion, i guess many people think otherwise.

The winners will be those whose fans have voted the most, multiple times, not those who NME favour the most.

I think it is more like elections in the USA. People vote, but in the end the president is choosen by electors who are appointed by the government. But what do i know? So you still should vote;)

The band aren't in it for awards, or number one albums or anything like that, which is why their music is so consistently fresh and excellent. They aren't one of those bands, like the Arctic Monkeys, who shameless pander to the critics and write portentous, pretentious tripe. And we also know that the NME are fickle two-faced tarts who favor certain bands and ignore others. For a while it was Drums who could do no wrong, but they've gone off them, then it was Foals....then it as Arcade Fire. Now it's the Arctics who they are obsessed with. So, no, the awards don't matter. But it is still lovely that our boys got nominated for the most, this is huge exposure for them, and a sort of vindication as well as NME used to tear them apart in their early days. And should be a really fun night.I for one will be cheering them on!

The number of Electoral votes depends on the population of individual states (i.e number of members of congress). And your votes still can decide which way the College votes. While perhaps not perfect or foolproof, it is however slightly fairer than the NME voting system though perhaps not as entertaining.

Well, this is the official explanation, but the fact is that 4 or even more presidents were choosen against the majority of direct votes. If you analyse this system mathematically you will see how perfect it is if you want to appoint the winner regardless how direct votes are distributed. In general the electors vote approximately the same as the voters, but not in exactly the same proportion. And this is where you can adjust the numbers. I know this for fact by the way, just don't want to go into more details. There is another thing that bothers me, much more important than president elections. Why is U2 nominated for the worste band? I am not a huge fan or something, but it doesn't seem fair.

Oh well if you know this for a fact but are sworn to secrecy then there you go. What the hell do I know about having been born and raised there. But whatever. Unless you are basing your research on Wikipedia. I'd be careful there.

Unless you are basing your research on Wikipedia. I'd be careful there. No, it is not a secrecy, i just do not want to turn the forum to some political discussion. If you want - write me a private message or something, then i can answer all you questions. I did not mean to offend you by the way, but being raised in USA doesn't help with this matter. In fact it only explains why you tend not to believe it. So i can explain you everything you want, but let us please do not do it on this forum.
