Really pleasant surprise on the production. It's very West Ryder in atmosphere and in the use of strings. There's hints of Road Kill Cafe and Cunny Grope Lane in the fuzzy guitar licks.
It's a lot closer to the acoustic version on Italian radio. More than I could have ever expected.
The restrained verses make the chorus lift that little bit more. Love it.

Probably why I like it so much I got into Kasabian in 2004 when the first album was released and kindof felt meh with Empire in comparison to the 1st album but was really WOW'd by West Ryder it's a modern classic in my mind & still my favorite album of Kasabians. Stevie & (Mortis) wouldn't sound out of place on West Ryder.

The loss of Karloff and the addition of Ian Matthews. It was like they had to work out what they could do with Ian almost, and they made a slightly more straight forward rock album. Without British Legion, we wouldn't have Happiness, Take Aim or Thick as Thieves however. I don't think we'd have West Ryder at all without Empire and in particular the Fast Fuse EP. Vital progression for the lads.

I love "Empire" now ... but agree its the weakest but still a great album cause Kasabian is a great band & all their albums are very good. I love Britsh Legion & agree with you there we wouldn't have today's Kasabian without that album I don't dislike a single song on the album but if I were to make and fill a 120 minute mix cd for someone (which I have) I find fewest songs taken from Empire

Vital progression for the lads. I agree. I think particularly British Legion and Doberman on that album were important steps in terms of Serge's songwriting, because they're completely bare of the electronic elements they had before. If certain sources are to be believed some of the "creative differences" at that time had a lot to do with Serge wanting to evolve musically, and probably go in the direction they eventually went. In the meantime they did another acoustic version of Stevie in Germany.

Looks like Stevie is the new single. They posted the audio, so nobody actually needs to buy it anymore, how considerate!

It does seem appropriate for it to be the next single from the album, right after Bumblebeee. Heck, if I were that much of a fanatic, I'd pray all the time for there to be a music video very soon.

Their management and label should write a handbook called 'how to have an amazing, beautiful, radio-friendly, popular song and completely ruin its chances of getting in top 500 charts'. I bet the video will be released any minute now to make sure when the song is out in November, all the interest about it has died down.
Speaking of the vid, I randomly saw a dance school today on fb announcing that one of their pupils, a little girl, will be in a Kasabian vid. I guess it must be the Stevie vid.
