Vlad was released as a single 4 year ago today. That release is one of my favourite singles ever, I love everything about it, the artwork, the b-sides - it was the first time the Fast Fuse outro was on an official release. Lots of people were unhappy too because it was a digital release but at that point there was no hope of getting a recording from the West Ryder arena tour and I was so grateful for these 2 tracks we got. We also got the second video with this release, again a rare footage from Dublin in early 2010 - I think I love this second vid more than the first one with Noel. It's always great live, so impressive, so majestic. This is one of my favourite performances and I love this too, if only for the Smack My Bitch Up snippet. Do you love Vlad (of course you do)? What do you like most about it? Favourite live performance? Have you seen it live?

In the live versions I have a soft spot for those songs that Tom and Serge sing in a kind of duett, if you can call it that, here especially the exchange about beatniks and heretics and the "get loose" that culminates in the outcry. I have a thing for songs with an outcry inside it, don't ask me why!
This is a version I heard once by chance and then it took me weeks to find it again. The only thing I remembered were the colourful clothes Tom is wearing there. I was so happy when I found it again! But I cannot really tell why I like this one so much.
Another one is the one from the O2 DVD, if that is the one where Serge and Jay play against each other and Serge ends up on his knees? At least I think that was "Vlad". Whatever it is, it was almost addictive to watch for a while.

But I cannot really tell why I like this one so much. I have a real soft spot for that whole Live de la Semaine show because it was one of the first professional live recordings we had of the West Ryder songs. I remember having it on my iPod at the time and watching it everywhere. I love this too, if only for the Smack My Bitch Up snippet. That's one of my favourites too. I was at the gig and got very confused because I didn't catch SMBU right away. They had done it once before (in America I think?) but by June I had forgotten all about it, so when they started I was like wait what's that? and realised too late to record. Luckily we got a full recording of the gig later. I don't think I have one definite favourite version, I pretty much always love it. It's one of the songs that had (still have) the biggest impact on me when I saw them live for the first time. If anyone is into random trivia, here's my list of names Tom has mentioned in the song - incomplete work in progress because we don't have recordings from every single gig.

Whats this bside fast fuse outro? It's wasn't only the outro, it had the song attached to it too . It was the live version from Sheffield from the 2009 arena tour, it's available on spotify. Thick as thieves from the same gig was an itunes exclusive b-side of Vlad too, both are amazing versions.

I was listening to the album earlier. Love the energy that goes with this song. Would love them to start the encore with this.

I was listening to the album earlier. Love the energy that goes with this song. Would love them to start the encore with this. One of the big differences for me is that Tim plays the riff live now. The energy is increased even more somehow. The Glastonbury mass jumping moment secured this as the song I personally hope never misses a gig again.

So this monster won third place in the song contest. I wanted to get annoyed because I love Fast Fuse more but then ended up watching this from Vienna which was one of the most gorgeous gigs (Vlad, Fast Fuse, Club Foot and Stuntman especially) I've been to - so now we made peace with it
