... than velociraptor. Especially on harder hitting guitar driven songs. Switchblade smiles sounds horrific sound wise, the guitar sounds like it was recorded on an amp from argos ha. They need a quality mixer and sound engineer to make it sound the best it can be. I've noticed on alot of guitar driven tracks that when distorted they sound terrible, acoustic ones are generally fine though!

I don't know about that... It sounds alright to me. I came across a couple of albums where production was underdone or overdone (like "Be Here Now" from Oasis), but this is a different situation.
Velociraptor! is meant to be light (or soft whatever you prefer), so they avoided hard strings. Tom said they were trying to make an easy pop-album. They even put a synthpop song on the album - "I Hear Voices", but did not include much more "rock" one - "Pistols at Dawn".
Of course, "Switchblade Smile" is actually a hard-rock song, and might better have been produced in the way you say. The same goes for Velociraptor (the song), but it would probably distort the harmony of the album. I do agree these two songs in particular sound better live, when they are played hard. But on the other hand some other songs sound better on CD, at least to me. For example, "Days Are Forgotten".
So i guess they had to make choices and went for a "light" option, in which case they produced the album exactly how it meant to be. And to be honest I am very pleased with the result.
It is also important how you listen to it - Kasabian are not exactly an iPod band. If you listen to it on mp3 or something then you might miss a lot, or hear it not like it was intended. But you probably knew that already...

My main gripe really is the distorted guitars they just never sound professional to me, even on quality speakers.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to this new album like mad and can't wait for the Leicester gig!
