Tom's bro and sister-in-law liked my up-in-arms tweet about it, which suggests that Tom's loved ones aren't overly happy with how the situation has been painted. That reminds me. I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but when Serge played a little session on that guitar they were auctioning off, John commented something salty along the lines of "if only we had the technology for the rest of the band to join in" And where did this even come from? Presumably they're still in lockdown. In Serge's most recent interview he was "talking to Tom every other day." In Tom's very recent Sky interview he was talking about the next album, gushing about Serge's solo record... what happened? I want this so desperately not to be a big falling out between Tom and Serge. Everyone else in other bands was always hating each other and knocking each other's teeth out, I mean I was an Oasis fan, you know. And their worst fight was like "we didn't speak for 2 hours and then we cried." Always so proud of my happily married band. And now the statement, so cold and careless, after 23 years of being that close, shame on them. I remember when Jay left, and we happened to be seeing Gary and Ian that very day at a jazz festival, HQ wasn't saying anything so that was our primary source of information, it was a huge mess. And I asked Ian, just to make sure, there wasn't a falling out, was there, are you all okay? And he looked at me really blankly for a moment like that wasn't even an option. And that was Jay. Not that he was less important, but he hadn't been in the band for 20 years. I have had my suspicions for some time that Serge's yearning to be the main man has grown in recent times. Does he feel that he hasn't had sufficient respect for his songwriting through the years? Does he resent that Tom is - without question - the beating heart of Kasabian on stage, despite not having much input creatively? For a band that's always prided itself on its tribal nature, this morning's statement was, quite simply, a bolt from the blue.

I guess best case scenario it’s their PR being spectacularly sh*t once again and nothing worse. But they’ve really messed up here, like everyone’s saying, it just raises more questions than answers.

Case in point that suggested all was not well a few months ago.
I had noticed for the last 6-12 months that the Kasabian HQ Twitter handle was very Serge-centric. Almost wonder if Aitor Throup has access to the account....

2004: Wow, maybe someday Kasabian could be the next Oasis! 2020: Please Kasabian, don't be the next Oasis

The statement reads like the band knew this was going to cause uproar and speculation no matter what, so fuck it. What's the point of being nice and sugarcoating it if the end result will be the same? Not that I condone that line of thinking at all. But it makes sense why they'd take that approach. Kinda.

Agree with some of the sentiments that serge wanted to be the main man, he had clearly grown in confidence in the live shows and basically sang half of 48:13. Can’t knock him for wanting to be the main man but when you have someone as talented as Tom you need to maximise his output.
Absolutely gutted.

If that’s the case it makes the way they’ve announced even more cruel. I do get what you and others are saying, it’s not hard to see. But they’ve always made their dynamic work, even with Serge getting more time to shine. Maybe I’m naive but I genuinely thought Tom and Serge had the kind of friendship that was unbreakable.

No I agree - although the dynamic in the band had changed, their relationship seemed as good ever. In the FCOL tour, Tom seemed to be signing to serge / getting close to him more often which makes this all the more surprising. Suppose things can change quickly however.

The timing is odd, considering they were meant to play their homecoming concert only a week or so ago. Would it have gone ahead if COVID 19 hadn’t got in the way. No official word from Serge either which is sad. I thought they were invincible as friends - guess I was wrong. My Mum had an operation today and is in hospital so I’ve had a completely and emotional day - this announcement has just floored me to be honest. I can’t really get my head around it or indeed anything else!!

Almost wonder if Aitor Throup has access to the account.... I think since the 48:13 era. Aitor and Neil came into their lives during Velociraptor and were really fixated on Serge, so much of the promotional material was Serge centric. At the same time Serge became much more confident on stage and turning into a second frontman. They also suddenly got big in Italy, where Serge was the main attraction as well. And it kind of became Serge's show.

There should be no Kasabian going forward if Tom is not in the band.
