It's such a massive place, you can't really "make it" playing in New York and LA every couple of years. If they play only one gig let's say in Germany, that's still a realistic travel option for a lot of Europeans. Obviously it doesn't really work like that in the US. They talked about it in an interview recently, saying it wasn't really happening in America so instead they chose to tour the shit out of places where it was happening, and now they kind of missed the moment over there. I'm glad they haven't given up on it completely though and you'll get to see them.

Yeah, you're right. the original label didn't promote them. they never toured west ryder in the states. They were due to be on the bill of the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle in September 09, but cancelled and played the Mercury Music Prize ceremony the day after instead. Couldn't find a mention that the two were linked but there was form for that around that era.

I had no idea that festival was ever a thing, but Jay's children were born on September 7, maybe that's why they cancelled? But they cancelled several gigs for really dumb reasons as well.

They still toured right after Serge's son was born (Even if he was a good month early). So who the fuck knows.

That festival in Seattle was September 5-7 so it might have been that exact day. And considering there was three of them, maybe it was slightly more complex endeavour, or it was scheduled, I wouldn't know. They also cancelled gigs for both of Chris' kids. It probably depends on whether they're able to / feel like taking the risk. Insurance doesn't cover "I'd rather be home" anyway. If Serge's baby had been born a few days later maybe they would have cancelled as well. They played with U2 then iirc, so maybe they couldn't pull out.
