Nothing fancy really. It was 2004, they were brand new, and Processed Beats was on the telly often. I was changing channels when it was on, because I was never listenting to a band I didn't know already on the telly (weird, I know). Anyway, this one time I decided to give it a go, and dear God, since that day Kasabian is my favourite band, and Processed Beats is still my favourite Kasabian song!

It was through a sort-of friend. He introduced me to Gran Turismo, I downloaded the game's soundtrack through the years. I got to Reason is Treason, then I listened to more of their songs. Soon enough, I'm an obsessed mess. I suppose there's no turning back now, huh?

Wow my way was extremely not interesting. First day of the 2010-11 Premier league, heard Fire at the intro, and after a few months decided I'd check the tune out. Liked it, found Club Foot, realized I heard it at the past, and got more obsessed about the band.

I discovered them through my brother-in-law and sister who saw them on tour in 2004 and have been big fans ever since (I think my brother-in-law liked them from the Saracuse days too, as he had a mate from Leicester that told him about them). I then got to know them through work. I didn't see them live until last year as I always used to babysit for my sister so she and the hubby could go and see them. She used to have the CD's in the car all the time and it was so sweet to hear my little nieces singing along to Underdog and Fire. When I got tickets to see iTunes last year, I took my sister. It was a great evening. We were upstairs in the VIP are, so she found it strange watching it from above when she's normally in the middle of the action downstairs or at the barrier! We didn't sit down all night and were dancing and singing all the time.

Surprised I didn't post it in here. It was Underdog which I first heard back in 2009. Vh1 has this Vh1 Gold show in India where they play great songs of the past years, and this just kicked in. The opening riff, Serge jumping with the guitar, Tom with some aura in his eyes, Chris, calm on the bass, and Ian looking great on drums. I took up playing guitar, but was disinterested. Until that is I heard Underdog. Was the first riff I learned. At that time, I was a kid, and used to find Coldplay the best band. But that. Just one video did it. Kasabian instantly became my favorite band. I was quite shocked at the delivery of the lyrics. Never seen anyone start a song with "Kill me if you dare". That I felt was bold. And a spooky spooky thing. You may not want to believe me. A week before I heard them first, I used to see a man alike Serge in my dreams, holding a crystal ball, walking to a table under a chandelier with knives on it. I swear never saw that album cover. Only realized the crystal ball when cuttoff mentioned in the Username/Avatar thread. But since then, I've been a thorough Kasabian fan. From being disinterested to now writing songs like them, it really had a huge impact on me.

My sister and I are huge Boosh fans and had heard that Noel Fielding was in one of their videos, so the first song we heard by them was Vlad. It kind of took both of us off guard at first, but it was so different from anything that I'd heard that I just kept listening to it. Eventually we decided to listen through their most popular songs and I was so hooked it was ridiculous. I think I listened to literally everything they've ever recorded within like two days haha. (Fun fact: when my sister and I met Tim at one of their shows he asked us how we found out about them so we told him all of this and he immediately lit up and was like "Oh, Noel Fielding! I love that guy!" and started talking to us about Luxury Comedy which is possibly the best reaction that anyone could have.)

One day in spring'2014 my girlfriend showed me the concert from Velociraptor Tour officially filmed for TV in London right on the New Year 2011-2012. I even saw her happy face in the 1st row on our TV screen ) Then I decided to check what is Kasabian - I heard about them long before but never listened to them. I was quite sceptical when I pressed the play button... Well, after the 1st album it was "Wow, how I could missed such a great music!" So, now I'm a fan )

By "took us both off guard" you mean you thought it was decent and I thought it was terrible yes? Really though if you didn't keep listening to Vlad and then play some of their other songs I don't think we would have ever loved them as much as we do now (or at all). And Fun Fact: Tim is the best~ :-)

I wonder if there will be a new wave of fans with the next album. I didn't notice it as much with the last one, but it felt like a ton of people discovered them in 2011. Maybe it was also the social media shift that contributed, it was right around the time when everything moved from forums and scattered communities to Tumblr.

I used to be a member of a community site back in 2014 (which sadly closed down earlier this year), and there was this person, that I really wanted to befriend but I was too shy, and she was a really huge fan of Kasabian. She made a thread about them, but no one really knew who they were. I thought that I would check them out, because I've heard that they're somewhat similiar to Franz Ferdinand (I was a huge fan of them back then).. but I didn't, and I can't remember why. So I totally forgot them, until I wandered around on the internet back in May 2015 and found some really awesome gifs, which apparently was from the music vid for eez-eh, so I checked it out because it looked really silly and interesting.. and I became totally obsessed with the song for 2 months. Then I became obsessed with Fire, Underdog, L.S.F. and Club Foot, and the first thing I thought was "why didn't I check these guys out earlier?"

With the new album and the upcoming tour dates in the States, I'm in the Kasabian nostalgia zone and wanted to resurrect this thread. Hope that is okay! Back in the early/mid-2000s, I really started getting into music, especially new rock music coming from the UK and indie bands from the US. I listened to a lot of British radio stations online and would often pick up NME at the bookstore most weeks. If I liked a single that heard, or the magazine talked about a band enough, I'd go ahead and buy the whole album, or go see them live if they happened to tour in my city. This is where this story gets a little weird... Sometime in 2005: I was perusing albums at the record store, and got the "K" section. There seemed to be a lot of bands with a K name them (or a K sound to them) that I liked: The Killers, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, Kings of Leon, The Kills, etc. I saw the Kasabian album and remembered the name, and thought I remembered the sound. They were kind of like Keane, right? Oh my. I got home, popped the CD in, and wow, I was in shock. No thanks! Not the music I was looking for! Fast forward a few months to the summer of 2005: I was looking for new shows in my local paper and I see that Kasabian is coming to town just before I go to Lollapollooza in Chicago (and playing Lolla, too). I thought I had to give them another try. They were still getting all kinds of press, now this tour, and Lolla appearance. I think I forced myself to listen to the album twice, all the way through, before I could allow myself to give up on them again. But, amazingly, I started to like a few of the songs. Then, I started to love them. A few weeks later, the gig was in a small venue with max capacity of 400. It was amazing, and so was the Lolla performance. I've been hooked ever since.
