Today is my own little anniversary of discovering Kasabian, or actually listening to them for the first time. I randomly picked up a Metro newspaper on the tube one day and there was an interview in there with Tom's pic and thought he's so pretty (shallow, I know!). He was talking about Serge modelling and I thought this must be one very good looking band.
It was that very exciting post-Libertines period in 2004 when all those new bands popped up (and subsequently disappeared) and I thought I’ll check them out, especially a friend had recommended them too. So on this day 9 years ago I was waiting for some guests who were late and decided not to waste time but check out that band before I forget about them. It was right after the first album was out, and I decided to download some songs before I buy the album (good old eDonkey, does anybody remember?) Butcher Blues and Cutt Off were downloaded first, I played them and that was it, I was in love. Forever grateful to my unorganised frieinds, because who knows, maybe I'd forget about Kasabian had they turned up on time. Fate.
That’s my story, what’s yours?

My story is a little less exiting, I discovered Kasabian the same way as I discovered most of my new bands/artists around that time, and that was by watching MTV2 (that was when it used to play decent music), seen the clubfoot video, instantly like both the video and the song. From then onwards did my usual trick when I get into a new band and that's to find out exactly how many release are out there, are there any promos, where can I see them live? just constantly digging for as much info as possible.

It was Noel Gallagher. I'm one of those people. I was a big Oasis fan and diligently listened to everything he recommended, and then Kasabian's name kept coming up, and I remember listening to all the "big" songs from the first album initially and thinking I've never heard anything like this, it was so exciting and different. I thought my music taste was fairly established but then Kasabian caught my attention like nothing else did before. Or since.

I discovered Kasabian in June 2012 (well, i heard their name in 2011 but always ignored them, i dunno why, lol) I was very sad about a "love delusion" so I searched on the web a list of sad songs because i was in that mood...and the song #1 in the list was Goodbye Kiss! I started to like it and listen to it over and over! I already knew that song because my mum asked me to burn a cd for her and she wanted that song, that she heard on the radio. So, I have to thank a bastard if I'm a fan of Kasabian now. After a week that I "officially" started listening to them, I discovered that Kasabian were playing in my city so I found 2 tickets and went with a friend we got to the front row, the stage was very close to the barrier and it was.... fabulous!

As already mentioned in the other threads I discovered them through the "Empire" video, which made me first fall in love with the song and then the whole album. But afterwards, while I kept listening to that album, I never went any further. I always had them on the back of my mind as a band I liked, but I lost them out of sight a bit. Last year on TV they showed the Koko show and I taped it. When I watched that - seeing and hearing them perform for the first time - I was delighted. So I went and bought all the other albums and of course liked them. But the breaking point was when I discovered the DVD of the O2 concert. When I watched that, everything was changed, I finally and totally was in love with that band and it's music. As I had a lot to catch up, I spent months hardly listening to anything else and watching hours of live material and interviews on youtube. highroyds: I guess Kasabian and Oasis are even now, because it was Kasabian that brought me to Oasis, after having ignored them for almost 20 years. I watched their "Lord don't slow me down" DVD without any better reason than that I had heard that Kasabian would be in it, as well. That was how deeply into Kasabian I was at that time, watching DVDs by bands I had absolutely no interest in, just for them. Well, look how that turned out. But I love that, bands and musicians leading to other ones.

Do you collect all the releases from all your favourite bands? That must be like a full time job!

Seeing LSF on MTV spiked my interest.
Found the album in HMV. Loved the Ultraface cover.
Put it in the car CD on the way home from the shops. Nearly crashed the car when ID came on.
The intro to ID still raises the hairs on the back of my neck to this day.

I spent about 2 years obsessing over Noel Gallagher, and I watched/listened to EVERY interview that he's ever done. And he kept mentioning Kasabian, who were also featured in the "Gold and Silver and Sunshine" documentary, as well as the "Lord don't slow me down" documentary. And then it got to a point where I was sick of Noel praising them, and so in December 2012, I decided to give them a listen. Cutt off and Butcher Blues were the first songs I heard, and then I spent a good one month only listening to these two songs on my iPod. Throughout 2013, I fell in love with each of their albums, and now I daresay I love Kasabian more than Oasis, which is a shame And yeah, I agree, Oasis and Kasabian music is quite different. You sing along with Oasis, and you dance to Kasabian. Never thought I'd like such music but I got really hooked really quickly. And it doesn't hurt that they're such a good looking band either

There was a period of time where I tried to do that with a lot of bands I liked, but eventually you have to draw the line somewhere. Now I mostly only pick up all the vinyl releases and grab the odd cd promo here and there if there isn't a physical release for a particluar digital only release single/album etc. I've developed good methods and techniques over the years which mean't I didn't have to keep trawling the internet every 2 minutes looking for new releases, or it would have indeed been a full time job.

Nearly crashed the car when ID came on. Great story. This is how a good album should be. Take Aim tends to make me crash the car, I avoid it when driving. ID intro gets better and better, I hope it always stays in the set.

My story is not so exciting. First time I noticed Kasabian in 2006 when I saw Club Foot video on TV. But in that period due to circumstances I was not exploring music much. In 2010 when i got back to it i heard Fire somewhere and linked it to Club Foot. So I went to explore more and after a couple more songs I ordered The Albums. Happened rather quickly actually. And before you now it Kasabian were my top favorite!

Again nothing too exciting ,I thought I started getting into them in 2006 but after stirring up my brain it was 2007 .I heard a tune on Primeval and thought that was a bit good and it was club foot and that was it .I researched them then I remember dropping my daughter at a birthday party and making sure I was home by 3ish to watch Kasabian on Live Earth and seeing Tom in his union jack shirt I think doing Empire was it for me ,I was sold .

I was at that very Live Earth Gig, I remember it well (the shirt especially), it was a great performance, I remember them trying to whip the crowd up like at a normal Kasabian gig, but it seemed like a tough crowd to crack, I think had they been on a bit later they might have faired a bit better.

My first real memory of the band we seeing the video for Shoot the Runner on TV and wondering who these beardy guys were... I bought the first two albums and really enjoyed them, but for a while they were just another band among tons of other things I was listening to at the time. I'm not sure when the obsession started - I think it had something to do with the Boosh connection ( I was really into the Boosh at the time, and must have thought anyone who is a friend of Noel's must be worth a closer look). Any way sometime during the long wait for the release of WRPLA ( a wait which became unbearable at the time) Kasabian became an overwhelming passion that I have been lost in ever since.

i'm a runner.. so some years ago, making a play list for a run i searched songs containing the word runner and of course i ended up with shoot the runner. took the song for my play list and some others but not really get into kasabian (i seriously ask myself why, what was my ear problem at that time !!) until last year when i had the occasion to see them live, a revelation, a punch in my face, a earthquake.
