Club Foot has its intro back which was very intense. Serge sang a bit before Fire, and Tom sang the first few lines before Cutt Off. Goodbye Kiss ending was very very beautiful and emotional with only Tim and the strings playing. Serge mentioned another name in Vlad but can't remember what or who was it. Serge went down to the barrier during Treat, and then after Fire again. He does this new-ish thing after Fire when Ian keeps drumming and he jumps to it. It goes on for a few minutes and explains why Neil Bedford can take so many pictures of Serge flying in the air. It's so entertaining. I can't get over how perfect Word Up is, they totally should cover the whole song and keep Rewired as a snippet in it and not vice versa. Somehow I appreciated lots of things from upstairs which you don't see from the barrier like all the lights and the big songs like Vlad and Club Foot which tend to get rough. It was actually so impressive to be able to watch all of them together and how perfectly they all work together.

Yes the crowd was very bouncy, it's scary to watch it from the balcony because I never see what's happening there when I'm at the barrier. Whole place just exploded for Club Foot, Vlad and Fire were predictably wild, whole middle was one giant moshpit. I really hope for a quieter spot tomorrow as we have 3 standing gigs in a row now!

I would love to see the band from the front, or downstairs, but I tore my cartilage at a gig a few years back and had to have surgery (or should that be Sergery ) and take time off work, so I automatically got seats in the balcony this time. I got there after 7.00 so all the "Serge" side at the front of the balcony was full, but I got seats behind the 2 rows of guest list seats on the "Chris" side and had a great view as only 8 people came and sat there and they were told that they had to sit down. The plus side of sitting higher is that I got to see the amazing light and laser displays.

We were sitting for that one too, one of the security people had a go at me for walking through the VIP aisle when there wasn't even anyone sitting there. I had to make a detour up the stairs and when I went back down to go to my seat in the first row I was stopped again, lest I accidentally brush against one of the special empty seats. When the people eventually turned up they hardly looked up from their phones throughout the whole gig. View was great though.

I'd love to be in the thick of things too (maybe not on the barrier, I don't really like being where the band can see me tbh, I know, weird) and it's frustrating that it isn't possible. But not as frustrating as not being at the gigs at all. Your post has made me realise how lucky I was with the Brixton gigs - I did the Monday and the Thursday and didn't realise that there were any guest list seats. Were they all towards the sides of the balcony? I was there before doors-open both nights, so I got to pretty much pick my seat - got front row directly opposite Serge on the Monday when I was on my own, then for the Thursday I was with friends and we opted for the first row where you could stand up - by bizarre coincidence I ended up in the same seat but two rows back from my Monday seat! Found the people in front having to stay seated really handy, cos when I had to sit down every 3rd or 4th song, I could still see. Totally agree with you about seeing the light and laser displays from there. The lasers for Treat were just incredible up in the balcony.

BTW, there is a disabled access area downstairs at Brixton Academy. It starts about halfway back along the side, and it's mixed wheelchair/non-wheelchair. I was in there for the 2012 gig but didn't really like it tbh, felt a bit out of things. Also if you're near the front of it you can't see what was then the Jay side of the stage but would have been Tim/string section side for the December gigs. But it's worth bearing in mind if they play Brixton again and you want to give downstairs a go.

The guest list seats were the first 2 rows on the right hand side of the balcony (what I call the Chris side). it's strange that the VIPS had to sit down, yet the front rows in the middle and left hand side got to stand up and dance. Something to do with health & safety? I wondered why they didn't sit in the boxes at the side, but they looked full of equipment. Hmm don't know if I'd want to sit in the disabled if I couldn't see Tim And I loved watching the Strings. Sadly, I've not seen Take Aim live yet, but I loved watching them on the Glastonbury show. Those violins were so haunting!

There were so many people being told off for walking through the VIP seats. Madness.

The first three rows of the balcony are not allowed to stand up.

Those violins were so haunting! Ah, thanks, I didn't know that. Weird that they shoved them out to the sides rather than the middle. The NME Awards had five rows of VIP seats, all the way across - I understand why they had to (to reward advertisers etc) but it was a right pain. The first couple of balcony rows are always seated at Brixton, and I think it is health and safety - they usually enforce it pretty fiercely. They certainly have all the times I've been there. Usually it's the first two rows in the middle, and four at each side, because the balcony goes further forward at the sides. For anyone who does ever need the disabled access area - it's only the front you can't see Timside of the stage from! If you're near the front of the cripple-queue you get to choose your place and can sit further back

And, yep, I've turned into one of those people who fume if they can't get as far forward at a Kasabian gig as possible. I swore it would never happen...
