I always found it interesting to hear with flourishes that Jay Mehler would add to material in the months following it's release. One example would be the little riff he'd play over the Re-wired chorus. I'd start to expect to hear them when returning to the album.
My presumption is that Serge would have the guitar parts mostly recorded by the time the album hit the mixing stage, and Jay would hear the material in the rehearsal process, meaning that's when he'd have time to digest and put his stamp on things.
With Tim apparently co-producing (according to articles) along with Serge, can we expect the record to sound a little more "fully formed" and closer to the "live versions" right off the bat?

With Tim apparently co-producing (according to articles) He definitely co-produced, Ian personally told us. It was just removed from Wikipedia the other day, because in the only article it's been mentioned so far it's worded a bit unfortunately and sounds like Tom says Tim produced Velociraptor, but this is definitely true. I've been thinking about Tim's position in the band a lot. It almost feels wrong to refer to him as a touring member, now he's so involved with the making of the album. But we don't know yet how heavily he is featured on it as a guitarist. And regardless of how the studio versions sound in the beginning, they've always evolved the songs over the years they've performed them. Fast Fuse got all the different intros and outros for example, LSF changed a lot, Underdog got that breakdown in the middle... Since you mentioned Re-Wired, I really love how it sounds with Tim now. It's probably my most played song on the HRC recording just because I like his playing so much.

He's a good guitarist as of what I have seen from tours. He's possibly adding those futuristic rock and roll touches to the songs

Update on the production thing. I asked Tim yesterday because every article so far is very adamant that Serge "singlehandedly" produced the album, and he said he's not sure if he's officially mentioned as a co-producer in the album credits, but that he did work very closely with Serge.

If I recall, his title with Dan the Automator was mixing engineer. Perhaps his role was strictly the method of production, rather than the creative aspect, where Serge would hold court.
That said, live, Tim (from the little pro-shot 2013 footage out there) strikes me as someone who will add his own stamp to the material. Instances like playing the string parts from Re-wired and Me Plus One and turning them into traditional guitar solos is refreshing.
Jay Mehler was always so precise. It's cool to flip that on it's head, and have someone who's a little more unpredictable.
Really can't wait to delve into 48:13 and try and find "Tim moments". That guitar solo in Clouds sounds like a prime candidate.

Not me! I'm just piecing together information from the playback report. I'm a geek for the nuts and bolts of putting an album together.

So even you got to attend the album listen event, mate? It would have been so nice if fans like stannis were there though, unlike the ones who were there for free booze and a catch-up with each other.

It sucks when you have been given the privilege to have a first listen for the entire album and you spend that moment in utter non-futile garbage. That's why I think pink pods with headphones would have been better.
