It definitely feels more cohesive than FCOL. Overall I like the songs on FCOL better than AE but as an album it always felt lacking somehow. Is there a way to see how it's selling so far? I'm not hating on FCOL either, it definitely has some nice songs but at the moment I like AE better. The only song on AE that I didn't like on the first listens was stargazr, the start sounds like a youtube ad but the second part is pretty good. According to Amazon and Itunes store it doesn't sell as good as friday or saturday when it was number one, it's out of the top10 now but the ones above if I'm not mistaken are older albums. I'm also interested for concrete numbers if anyone has any idea. *edit on the Itunes Store there is Cheat Codes by Danger Mouse & Black Thought at number 5 which was released at the same day as AE. There will be a chart update today in the UK. Would imagine Kasabian will be #1 going off history and the competition this week.

Bad comparison but FCOL has 52k in the first week.

anybody else feels like this album is quite strong lyrically? of course there are a couple of meaningless songs, as in every album (ALYGATYR, ROCKET FUEL), but there are some really good ones too. I really like the vibes in ALCHEMIST and STRICTLY OLD SKOOL.

I really like the vibes in ALCHEMIST and STRICTLY OLD SKOOL. I think they're very direct, which they didn't use to do a lot. There were always some "we're just shouting fun words and it feels vaguely empowering! woo!" type of songs. Which I loved, no shade. The only thing on here that recalls earlier lyrics for me are the verses of Alygatyr. That's why I think it might have been written earlier, at least partly. Welcome to the forum by the way

They need to stop advertising more things like this until they’ve fulfilled all the original pre-orders! Still haven’t received mine. Emailed the shop and they’ve said they’ve got stock issues and they’ll update me by the end of the week…so doesn’t even look like I’ll get it this week! Not happy.

I've been listening to the album at least once a day since it came out but it doesn't really have the same kind of obsessive binge energy of the previous albums for me. No matter where those eventually fell in my ranking, I couldn't stop listening to them for weeks. Maybe I've changed.

The rest are just OK.

I think another reason why people have lost that will to binge is simply because the band is not what it was, quite literally. It's not a "No Tom, No Party" thing, it's just a fact that what made Kasabian such a wonderful band to follow was their brotherhood and loyalty to one another.

Weirdly I'd say the singles are the worst songs on here, apart from maybe SCRITVRE. The more experimental moments are my favourites (STARGAZR, TUE, and even ROCKET FUEL strangely enough). That said, I'd still rank it in the lower half of my Kasabian rankings. I feel like they're at their best when they're leaning more into the rock side of things, and they don't do a ton of that here.
