I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices similarities in music of different artists from time to time. I don't mean covers and obvious plagiarism of course, but songs (or parts of songs) that sound like other songs. What fascinates me about this is that in most cases it is not clear if one of the artists is inspired by the other, or they just got the same idea at different moments. Here is the list of some pairs of "similar" songs, I am curious if anybody will hear what i hear. chronologically first
| chronologically second
| The Rolling Stones - "Brown Sugar" | The Dandy Warhols - "Bohemian Like You" | Blondie - "Europa" | UNKLE - "Unreal" | Aphex Twin - "Heliospan" | Jam & Spoon - "Warm Dead Dog" | Juno Reactor - "Hotaka" | VNV Nation - "Entropy" | Kasabian - "Shoot the Runner" and "Last Trip (In Flight)" | UNKLE feat. The Duke Spirit - "Mayday" | Pink Floyd - "Dogs" and "Sheep" | Porcupine Tree - "Time Flies" |
And if you have noticed any other similarities, please add them to the list.

Oh wow I just listened to Mayday, and the intro definitely reminds me of STR. I should check the rest of your list:) Totally agree about Brown Sugar and Bohemian Like You, they sound so similar.
One similarity which I somehow find slightly annoying is between Editors' A Ton of Love and The Chemical Brothers' Golden Path. I don't like Golden Path and it spoils A Ton of Love for me because it's playing in my head when I'm listening to it.
Another similarity, probably purely based on the distinct drum pattern is between Tomorrow Never Knows, The Chemical Brothers' Setting Sun, and Oasis' Falling Down - all great songs.
And Golden Brown (The Stranglers) = Part of the Queue (Oasis) = Professor Pickles (Reverend and The Makers)

Oasis - wonder wall, oasis - d'ya know what I mean and green day - boulevard of broken dreams. All use the same chords and as a guitar player all the songs have capo on fret 2

Falling Down is in top 3 of my favorites of Oasis. And i have never put it together until i read your post;) I am sure Oasis knew what the did when they used the similar drum line. Setting Sun sounds even more like Tomorrow Never Knows, in fact it sounds like electro mix of the original - it is a total ripp off;) I would do it as well by the way if i could compose anything - Beatles are just made to steal from;) And this series is probably the champion of similarities. And the other two examples also make sense - especially when you listen to it one after another. Great spot!

Another one is 'last dance with Mary Jane' - tom petty and the heartbreakers and 'dani California' by the red hot chillies. Beatles - 'ob-la-di, ob-la-da' and offspring - 'get a job'

"Mary Jane" and "Dani California" similarity is well found! And "Why don't you get a job" sounds indeed very much like "ob-la-di, ob-la-da", but in this case i believe they officially sampled it.

Intro to radiohead - 'just' and kasabian - 'cut off' Yes, more noticable in the old 'NME' version of Cutt Off.

Funny how these two songs take complete different directions after a similar intro. There must be other similarities in Kasabian songs by the way, after all they claim to be inspired by so many bands. I heard from somebody "Shoot the Runner" reminded him some Deep Purple song. But I never found it...

I heard from somebody "Shoot the Runner" reminded him some Deep Purple song. But I never found it... It must be Black Night. I've heard from some people too that it reminds them of STR. I don't think they remind of each other, it's they're just similar genre.

days are forgotten - immigrant song hmmm... Immigrant Song is my favourite of Led Zeppelin, but i don't really see similarities in these two. Even that Serge said that Days are Forgotten was inspired by Led Zeppelin. Then again - similarities are not always objective of course.

The scream was inspired by it, not necessarily the rest of the song. But naturally the press turned it into "it's a homage!!"
