I thought I'd make this for general discussion about buying releases, what's on Ebay right now, what things are worth... so the picture thread and the "most wanted" don't get too clogged up.
I'm still astonished at the prices on Ebay sometimes. I just ordered some bits and bobs from Amazon (frustration treat after I didn't get the Japanese Reason is Treason yesterday) and something I bought for €6 is on Ebay for €40. I always think that anyone who is seriously into this would probably have an idea what things are worth and not pay a fortune for a simple first album CD single for example? Or do people buy those things?
In my early collecting days I think I paid a bit more for Paradise02 than I probably had to, I could have waited longer and found it cheaper somewhere, but I really wanted it. And it wasn't that much anyway. There was a dead mosquito inside the flag when I opened it, so maybe they charged more for that.

I saw a first album media kit on ebay yesterday for like £90. Given everybody here bought it for like £3, it's a bit too much?
I've never been consistent in collecting Japanese releases, I have all the albums' Japanese editions, but singles are really random. I want to concentrate on it a bit during this break, so please let me know if you see anything interesting please. I just won the Japanese Cutt Off auction from that guy who's selling lots of stuff on ebay recently, (and a bit cheaper than I expected) - can't wait to get it.

I've seen that first album media kit too, the price is insane. There is one for sale on discogs for €7.75 at the moment, which is much more reasonable. I am glad you won the Japanese Cutt Off, I'm sure it will be very well cared for! And I just realized that I have quite a lot of Japanese releases, but nothing from WRPLA!!! I will have to see to that!

Japanese releases got a bit boring for the last albums I think. All the first album Japanese stuff is so exciting, different designs and artwork. Starting from West Ryder the main difference was that they would get a bonus track with the album, I wonder whether the tradition will continue for the next album.

From what I've seen from other bands the Japanese bonus tracks are often something exclusive, so just putting the b-sides on it seems a bit lazy. (Unlike the rest of this album release lolol) On the other hand, it's unfair of course because sometimes people in other countries might have no legal way of getting those songs. I just remembered they used to have special iTunes tracks too.

It's because albums are hell of a lot more expensive in Japan so they put exclusive stuff there to make sure the albums will sell and wont be imported/downloaded.

Yes, that's why it's a bit lame to make those bonus tracks something that's available anyway, it sort of defies the purpose. Okay, Gelfling wasn't out yet when the Japanese 48:13 was released, but it was kind of obvious that it would be the other b-side. They also put Black Whistler as a bonus track on Velociraptor, five years after its initial release. It's a great song, but it just seems so lazy. I'm not demanding special songs for each country, but they must have some random things lying around. We know Serge made a remix of Velociraptor that we never got. Sit down for five minutes and record an acoustic version, the fans will be all over that. And so this post isn't just complaining again, has anyone ever seen (or owned) a first edition of the debut album US release? Wherever I look I only ever see the reissue with the full tracklisting, I'm starting to think it might be a myth.

I had two U.S. copies of the debut on CD. One was the red masked man and one was blue masked man, and I forget which one it was but it definitely only had the ten tracks. No Orange, Pinch Roller nor Ovary Stripe. I was under the impression it was a pre-release "import copy".
Also had a cassette of it once! I think it was red and had just the ten again but it's been a few years now.

The European one was never re-released unfortunately, if I buy it on Amazon Germany now it still has 10 tracks, and even the version included in the double album together with Empire isn't the complete one. The cassette has 10 as well.

Long shot but does anyone know the release date of the European Empire single? One Amazon listing says November, but it doesn't look very reliable. The single was released in the UK in July, and although countries like Germany were a bit behind at that time, it doesn't make sense to release the lead single months after the album. Discogs says August, but no exact date.

I can't get over the price! Just for one track?! Definitely something for a true collector.
