Just saw the Roskilde hint. Great stuff but who had the fabulous idea to remove MTV completely from German satellite TV? That's odd ...

There was a short bit in Arte's "Tracks" yesterday. www.arte.tv/guide/de/057371-002/tracksStarting at about 7:40. I have no idea if it is landlocked and unfortunately it is overdubbed in German.

I can't believe the journalist said that : "they were a pale copy of Oasis at their beginning"... How could Club Foot or Cutt Off have ever had anything to do with Oasis! And God knows I have always been a huge Oasis fan

I can't believe the journalist said that : "they were a pale copy of Oasis at their beginning"... How could Club Foot or Cutt Off have ever had anything to do with Oasis! And God knows I have always been a huge Oasis fan It surprised me too because I don't think in Germany they're as closely associated with Oasis as in the UK. There used to be the odd mention that they toured with them, but not "They are the new Oasis!" type headlines everywhere. Serge once said in European countries it's easier because people perceive them sort of unbiased, unlike in the UK, where they already have a certain reputation. All the Brits got offended. I think the whole comparison only happened because they were friends. If they had never met them nobody would have thought to make the connection because their music is completely different. But Oasis were supportive from the beginning, and it was easy to start comparing Tom to Liam for all the lazy journalists who were confused by their music.

But Oasis were supportive from the beginning, and it was easy to start comparing Tom to Liam for all the lazy journalists who were confused by their music. I've read this interview of Serge saying that he appreciated not to be compared to anyone in European countries, and I was a little bit proud of him noticing and appreciating this... I have just listened to the German part of the Arte interview, and (if my German is still as good as it used to be ) they said exactly the same as in the French interview... I was puzzled because the French Arte Tracks journalist Laurence Romance is in alternative/indie/underground music for almost 20 years, and I was like "how could she say that"! But after hearing the German interview, I realize that the comments may have been written by somebody else.. What I also learned in this interview was that Serge had decided of the length of the album before even writing the songs, and that he wrote the songs according to the length (and title) he had in mind, I had never heard of this

The French version was probably just a translation. He said in a few interviews that he decided on 48:13 before. I thought it was a joke at first, but apparently not. He came up with the number and then got obsessed with realising it. He also said it wasn't the best idea because it was an awful lot of work to get the songs to the right length.

At least I learned something in this interview, and there were also some images of a gig where was Tom wearing a Sonic Youth "Washing Machine" t-shirt, do you know which one it was?

Tom will be on XFM tomorrow morning. Haven't heard if he will be there during the Breakfast show or with Ian Camfield.
I will listen carefully for the rest of my working day.
