It's not a huge favourite of mine, but cuttoff and I were just talking about our favourite versions. Hard Rock Calling was gorgeous, one of the first times they played it with the new intro and outro: And a sad one:

One of best tracks on Velociraptor! I reckon.

This is my favourite version. I love the intensity and the happiness behind the melody. This version has some feeling of hopefulness instead of sadness, and I like this.

That song does not do very much for me, that one and "Neon noon" are the ones I could do without on "Velociraptor!" and I might have skipped it on occasion. But I like that Tom used to dedicate it to his dad because it's his favorite. I saw a video once, no idea when and where, where he could not finish it just because he was so overcome with emotions, which was quite lovely. (If it was just that and not something serious, like an illness, of course!)

Now he have the best version. What beautiful job they did in this melody. Kasabian should record and release some acoustic like this Live Lounge.

(If it was just that and not something serious, like an illness, of course!) It was in Italy two years ago, and there was nothing going on, he always gets a bit emotional during the song, and it was his dad's birthday, which probably made it more emotional. It's so beautiful with strings, especially the ending with Tim. It would have been even nicer if Serge had done the different harmonies though, instead of none at all. It would be lovely if they made an acoustic album one day. They always say they're not really an acoustic type of band, but they do it so well. I think Tom kind of wants an acoustic album, he's been talking about it. They should do it. I think my only issue with 48:13 is that there's not really a song where Tom gets to shine vocally. I love how much Serge is singing on it because I can't get enough of his voice, but I feel like it's kind of missing a song like this. He's got such a versatile voice, they should use him more.

Thank you very much for filling in the background! As for an acoustic album, of course I'd take it, but for me they are not the kind of band I want sth like that from. I'd much rather they keep on blending all kinds of genres together and kasabianize them. I think that's their strength. Of course, I'd not complain about acoustic sessions now and then and a few "pure" guitar songs on the albums. But on the other hand I'd love to see that totally guitarless album Serge "threatened" 48:13 to be one day. If not as Kasabian, to not scare away some fans, maybe as a Serge solo project.

Sergio also "threatened" to make a four-track album once. Which would also be interesting, as well as guitarless album. It all might fit into Kasabian project, but the biggest problem is where you get the time for it. They are touring a lot, and between tours it is usually working on a new album. As an example, Damon Albarn has plenty of side projects besides Blur. It is all nice, but his main project - Blur, made the last album like 10 years ago. They are planning a new one, but it is just an indication how side projects interfere with main project. You can also take Jack White, who has like 4 projects, but i think he consideres all (or most) of them like main, so they have to make space for each other. I believe Kasabian as a band has plenty to say yet, so probably side projects have to wait. Of course Sergio was a main part of The Loose Tapestries, but it wasn't a "full time" project.

Of course Sergio was a main part of The Loose Tapestries, but it wasn't a "full time" project. I don't think the Luxury Comedy soundtrack took him longer than 20 minutes to write. They're not the most ambitious songs.

Well, thankfully our musicians don't listen to us when it comes to what to do next. Also, the guys are still young, so who knows what they will bring us in the future. Just saying, it might be interesting. But of course I want to "keep" Kasabian, as long as they have fun and music in them.

Fantastic and beautiful song, showcases Serge's variety in songs writing well and Tom's insane leaping in singing ability. I always thought that it was pretty odd timing to write a break up song though, considering that a couple of months before its writing Serge became a father. Then I read on the wiki that it was demoed years ago, then it made perfect sense to me, because it means that Serge probably wrote it about his (then perhaps not) break up from Amy, especially because Serge himself said that it was because he was doing some Rock star bullshit (his words, not mine), and perhaps the most memorable lyric in the song is "Rock & Roll sent us insane" which is beautiful. So yeah, beautiful song, especially with the little intro of it live.

So yeah, beautiful song, especially with the little intro of it live. He did say multiple times that he wrote it pretty much for the sake of writing it, because it's the opposite of what the general public would expect from Kasabian, so it was more of a "fuck you, we can do this too" than necessarily drawing from personal experience. He's a writer, he's got an imagination. He wanted to write a love song, but because he is, according to himself, "attracted to the dark side", it became a break up song instead of something happy and cheesy. Also he probably wouldn't want to write about something that might possibly be quite painful and then have to perform it every night for the next few years. Besides, they said it was written about 10 years prior (around 2001) which doesn't add up at all. ETA: Also, I believe the lyrics were written quite late anyway. If you've heard the snippet of the demo version that is out there, it's pretty much just Serge mumbling the melody. The song was not even called Goodbye Kiss yet as late as November 2010. He did talk about writing lots of the lyrics in San Francisco, so even if he had the melody or parts of it years before, it's not an old song.

I always cry whenever I'd hear this song. I never not cry-- okay, that sounds better. I never not cry or get emotional whenever I'd hear even just the intro because the way Serge explained the lyrics pretty much is exactly what I just went through (if it were to be in the guy's pov and not mine). Rock and Roll really sent us insane. The most amusing thing here? We met again.

I'm usually too aware of the songwriter's intention to make a song about my own stuff, but I had something going on at the time that I stupidly started to associate with GK, and then at the gigs Tom would be like "This is for everyone with a broken heart... get over it lol" and I was like yeah shut up. But it kind of became a bit painful and really impaired my enjoyment of the song, which is silly, but what can you do. I'm kind of glad they haven't been playing it much because I need to learn to love it again.

I think I have this knack for masochism because even if it IS painful I still play it more than twice at a time. There even was this time I had it on loop and it was playing for hours and I was just alone at home, bawling my eyes off. Now, I've learned to not cry to it but I can't help it at times. Oh, and if I was at that concert when Tom said that I would have threw a bottle at him, security be damned. The whole freakin song is what happened, how can you effing get over it?
