He was a sound engineer or something like that in the early days. Somehow people started to think he was the drummer, to the point that to this day it says Ash Hannis on pictures of Ian sometimes. I don't actually know if he played drums at all or if it's completely made up. There was an interview with Serge a few years ago (in Australia I believe?) where he says that everything on Wikipedia is wrong, and he mentions that guy as an example. Ian also complained to me once that everyone thinks he was the drummer. I think it's in Sound Movement & Empire though, maybe that's where it originated. I have heard a story (don't know if it is true), that Ian broke his arm once just before a one-song performance at NME(?) awards, and someone from technical people had to replace him. Is it possible Ash Hannis was that person and that is where the rumours started?

Ian broke his finger in Italy in 2010 and his drum tech Laurie (who's a great drummer himself) replaced Ian for a few Italian gigs and NME awards (they played Vlad). Ian doesn't even know who Ash Hannis is, he doesn't work for them anymore.

What did he really say though? His point was that people of vastly different genres were lumped together in the best band category, including undeniably pop acts like One Direction and those jokers. He said "we have no business being in the same category" which is probably true. The conspiracy thing was completely misquoted from the start, he said it's like a conspiracy against rock music, seeing how less rock bands are included. It was quoted everywhere as "it's a conspiracy against Kasabian" which he didn't say. He didn't run to the tabloids and cry about not being nominated, he was asked about it in multiple interviews. He responded that yes, it's probably a bit weird that they're not nominated after the year they had, #1 album, Glasto, huge tour... fair point. We also know very well that they're not really that bothered about awards in general. Then he said he's got a friend who writes Clean Bandit's songs. I briefly checked their album credits, the band members have co-writing credit on pretty much everything, but also lots of other people, and if he knows the person he probably knows more than me. I had never even heard of Clean Bandit before this, but I listened to them yesterday and they are kind of shit. Maybe he shouldn't have said it, but I think he just named them as an example of the Brits' odd choices. I don't want to defend them blindly but I think in this case it's really the press that kept asking about it, and then gleefully turned his fairly innocuous responses it into "Serge is angry" and "Serge feels victimised" and "BRITS WAR!!!" All they really said about it themselves is in this and this interview. It seems like such a non-issue in a way. So he doesn't like Clean Bandit, big deal. Which reminds me, wasn't the Ed Sheeran comment taken out of context too? From what I remember he just said that Ed Sheeran is huge at the moment, and I didn't even read anything negative into that, until it was listed as an example of evil Serge hating on poor random musicians. And speaking of the awards, I don't entirely trust the public vote thing myself, I do think they might give them to people who have something to promote at the time, or the ones who agree to show up at the ceremony. I was just saying to cuttoff yesterday, last year at the Q Awards they gave that classic album award to Pink Floyd when - what a coincidence! - their new album just happened to be coming out. There was one year when Kasabian were not nominated and I mentioned it on Twitter somehow, and Q literally told me they were not eligible because they weren't currently touring. They actually were, which was the most stupid part, but the point is, if a band is not considered relevant right now, they're not even getting shortlisted. So none of it is really an indication of anything except trends.

Thank you very much for your thoughts on that matter highroyds! I guess fans - and non-fans ... - spend more time thinking about stuff like that than the guys themselves.

Ya know, from what I've learned from being a fangirl, fan-voted awards are actually not much of a merit. I'm a Big Bang Theory fan and the actors and the show itself get nominated here and there. They get nominations in People's Choice Awards and they win. Back then, I was excited because heck, the thing I'm into won something because they were chosen by the public! Well, later on I figured out it doesn't rwally work that way. People will suggest nominations and if it's trending at that time and had so much nominations their system is about to puke, it gets shortlisted. Now, once they have the list of nominees, campaigns will go left and right by fans and marketing teams. Who wins these awards? The PCAs officers and officials have the final say on who wins. They choose from those with the high volume of votes, so the winner is not exactly the one with the highest. It is still thsir jurisdiction on who they'll be presenting the award to. So, I really don't see it being a highly-excitable win to begin with.
Now, with the cramming all acts together under the "best band/group" award, Sergio is right. It's like you're letting Orange Is The New Black win all the comedy category awards, even if it only has one vaguely funny line and the rest is drama.

Well, if you see who won stuff for last year's Brits... Arctic Monkeys..... Rock band..... If Arctic Monkeys can be nominated..... That's the whole point. They're indeed trying to kill off Kasabian, presumably by making them almost look inferior. They were quite ablaze with the black tie T-shirt, some even referring him to as the lead singer. Please know your facts mate. And if you read the Clean Bandit interview, you'll see how the reporter looks to be rooting for them, like some cat was being harassed by a dog, and they're trying to defend the cat. Why in the world would Serge be jealous? Probably earns way more than the entire band. Never heard of Clean Bandits before that interview, looks like some string quartet, the lead singer looks like she could be in some Japanese hentai spoof, which is why I wouldn't listen to them, given highyrods already mentioned they're shit. To be honest, and not sounding too much of a conspiracy guy, it looks like all of us being controlled. Every genre has it's era. Back then, there was revolt music, satanic music, and all that music they said resulted in, well, violence. The plan looked like something of controlling people and making them cause trouble. And as if that hadn't worked, they decided to throw in Miley Cyrus, Meighan Trainor, and many ridiculous people so that people could act and be as dumb as them.

The chorus on 'Cutt Off', now more than a decade old, still sounds as pregnant with combustible energy as it did in 2004. At its climax, Meighan darts offstage, leaving Pizzorno bopping around with a set of maracas. The guitarist then begins as interlude of solo cabaret that takes in a cover of Cameo's 1986 hit 'Word Up' and two tracks from the last album: a euphoric 'Bow' and 'Treat'.
This is from NME's review of the Garage gig. How the hell you manage to miss Tom during Re-wired and Treat and think Serge alone did 3 (or even 4) songs in a row - they even list Word Up as a separate song in their setlist. Also, since when Bow is euphoric?
I know it's not end of the world, but it annoys me so much, that a publication which interviews them every week and is reviewing a short set of a huge band, still can't tell who is singing what.

I remembered this earlier, because there was something about Tom and Serge meeting at the age of 17, which is not true, they met when they were 11 but didn't become friends until a bit later. They were already in a band in 1997 anyway. But it reminded me of a very strange article a while ago that claimed they first met in 2002 and Serge was the singer before Tom joined.

This Serge vs Tom, and/or Serge and Tom above Chris and In is obvious bullshit. I can bet there are no cracks due to that in the band. You can see during Q Awards when I an speaks, and Tom is like, " Let him speak"
The laughter around is a clear indication that they joke about it themselves.
I'm also pissed they mention Serge as the vocalist, just because he does some songs. His voice is fair enough, he can't get those long notes right, we all can admit that, but the reporting quality is just bollocks.
I don't want to say this, but I'm having the feeling that the media prefer Serge over Tom, as a marketing product, except for Thorup, who uses him as his wish in his vids. Bad Thorup.

You can see during Q Awards when I an speaks, and Tom is like, " Let him speak" They've said it themselves so many times, the others are more than happy that they don't have to do any promo. But band members getting along is boring and not a good story, there MUST be some secret grudges, and Chris is totally jealous that Tom gets to do 35 interviews before breakfast while he has the day off. I'm going to pretend I didn't see that about Serge's voice.

Poor Tim can't catch a break. They got Jay's full name right though you'd think they would've noticed that he looks a bit different here than in other pictures?
