Great song, indeed they could`ve mixed the vocals better So far best track of new album (I`ve heard) is Are You Looking For Action

Goodness, the studio version is appalling!
The vocals are far too faint, I don't know why Tom's vocals seem to be watered down more and more with every album.
It's a good job it's so good live, that's all I'd say!

P.S. On the topic of studio mixing - is it time for Serge to pass it back to a professional? Dan the Automator's work on WRPLA was legendary.

I think it still remains to be seen. The studio version of Ill Ray is growing on me more and more. This album really is going to be a grower. Patience will be required to understand all of its value. I just plan on fast forwarding the process via a weekend long marathon listen!

Mark Stent and Steve McLaughlin mixed 48:13 and I am pretty sure Serge didn't mix this one either. And Velociraptor!'s mix was bad, heavily butchered the title track.

That song definitely sounded better live but so do a lot of their songs. stevie is a song that is given very little justice on the album version. I didn't know how good it was till I got to watch them live at the 9:30 club in DC. That song floored me that night. I just dig the mixing on Velociraptor! a lot. Certain things come into the foreground and fade into the background at just the right times. All of their albums have some spotty production value in certain places, but that's also a lot of their charm. You gotta really listen in order to hear the music

Actually starting to think it's up there with their best work. And other people think so too. It's also 7th on Amazon's sale chart, not bad at all!

This track is starting to grow on me the more I listen to it. Might end up being like Stevie as I wasn't initially impressed with it. It ended up being one of my favourites from 48:13

I like the song a lot, but I wonder if I'm the only one who took a while to figure out that it's not about King Ray being sick. I was getting worried about Ray Davies, the only kingly Ray that came to mind.

Is this the dodgy Spanish album, after we already had the dodgy French on Velociraptor?

Don't speak either language. But glad to hear I was not the only one! Still, I guess that song will now always make me think of King (Sir!) Ray Davies, which is never a bad thing!

I wish there was more flair and was mixed better.
