Well, what can i say about this interview... To be honest i do not believe Tom said even half of the things in it to begin with;) And what he did say is "edited" to sound kinda rough and mean. He never speaks like that and it is not his choice of words. I saw a couple of his interviews in Russia on youtube - they went down very differently. But this is journalists for ye - i think they just tried to appeal to certain kind of readers or something. But this interview doesn't sound authentic. Completely agree with you, Tom doesn't sound like himself at all and it's not a matter of things being lost in translation, it's heavily edited.

Oh I've seen this interview quite long ago. Actually it's not from February 2015, it was published in November 2012, just before their first ever gig in Russia, but this February RS republished it. And I agree with jayfreeman that half of that might be very edited and I wonder how it reads in original, what did Tom say in English.

how do they rehearse after Tom's singing lesson if he isn't taking singing lessons? that's exactly tom's point he says they never rehearse, unless they have a new album because they spend so much time playing gigs, they don't need to. he says rehearsing is for losers and idlers (it's also the interview's heading). (it's funny though to talk about it right now because I know for a fact they're rehearsing this week for T lol)

Oh I did think it's an old one because they're still talking about the cancelled gigs and velociraptor.

It makes sense to rehearse when they change the setlist around or do something new. But if the question was how many hours a week they rehearse, the interviewer probably thinks they still meet every day in Serge's dad's garage or something.

Nevermind this interview above, I take all I said back. Randomly came across to another one from Rolling Stone Russia from Feb 2015, which I thought is one of the most accusatory interviews I've seen - Russian speakers what do you think stepstr jayfreeman voldemar frencheezeh? Tom basically spends most of the interview justifying himself that he's not taking singing lessons, because apparently his voice was worse on the first three albums and got better only on Velociraptor! (Tom gives an impassionated answer how his voice and music is within him and has to come from his heart, not from lessons), that cancelling gigs is not his decision and defending Chris who wanted to be around when his child was being born. The interviewer wants to know what his mum thinks about his swearing (crucial info for a music journalist obviously!); and the Pretty Green 'ad campaign', which Tom helpfully explains that it's not a campaign but Liam once took his pic, that's it and he finds it funny that they call him a 'model'. The rest of the questions are still very patronising - how many times per week and for how many hours they're rehearsing (Tom: we rehearse after my singing lessons) and what was the last time alcohol helped him though a gig. I don't know, maybe I'm being too demanding but you get to interview this amazingly talented musician, and all you can ask whether he gets told off by his mum and a Pretty Green t-shirt? I am stunned, (even though my Russian isn't that good ), this interview is awful, and apparently heavily edited, you're right cuttoff and jayfreeman. Tom is the nicest and most talented frontman of his generation, and it is exactly because he sings with his heart that his voice is so beautiful and powerful, and has always been!

(Although they are rehearsing this week, Stuntman comeback anyone?)
